Walsenburg sits at the base of the Spanish Peaks. Here, the western plains are set against the rugged Rocky Mountains and the views are outstanding. The town itself has a rich history of ranching and coal mining as well as an active community of artists, entrepreneurs, musicians, and unique characters. Visitors can experience some of the finest antique shopping in Southern Colorado as well as a variety of art galleries, restaurants, and museums. 'Walsenburg Wild Waters' water park provides a welcome break from summer heat while the fully refurbished Fox Theater is often host to live music from around the country and around the world and is the central location for the annual Celtic Music Festival in the Fall. Whether at nearby Lathrop State Park or elsewhere, the area's beautiful natural surroundings offer outdoor activities of all sorts from hiking, boating, fishing, and hunting to golfing and cycling. No matter if this is your destination or you're taking a break on your way, your time in Walsenburg will be unforgettable. By La Plaza Inn.

Walsenburg was originally founded by Spanish farmers. Although it is a progressive town, the moment you set foot in Walsenburg you will rarely notice any modern touch to its exteriors. If not for the new Walsenburg visitor's center, Walsenburg would appear to be a town from an old movie. To start your adventure in Walsenburg, after you have settled in a comfortable Walsenburg bed and breakfast, pick up a map at the visitor's center and look for the Scenic Highway of Legends. It begins West of the town and goes all the way through some of Colorado's most interesting historical and scenic spots, including great rock formations along mountain walls. Walsenburg has that old town feel that attracts travelers and it offers a good restaurants and a number of excellent fishing spots. You might want to arrange for an innkeeper who would offer to cook your catch! By La Plaza Inn.
