Just outside town is a century-old monastery that still is in operation which draws visitors year-round to the Historical Museum of St. Gertrude. Cottonwood is located in Nez Perce Indian country with opportunities to visit museums, cultural & historical sites. The Lewis & Clark Corps of Discovery traversed the countryside around Cottonwood spending several weeks with the Nez Perce people on both legs of their trip.
