Our weekend at the Willow Tree Inn was definitely memorable, but not in a good way. The room itself was great--very comfortable, spacious, and nicely decorated (we stayed in the Willow Room). Everything else was just...weird. The price includes dinner, an unusually nice perk--but it turns out they probably do that because there is nothing else in town. We decided to go out anyway because my travel companion was vegetarian and they were serving meat. When we asked for a recommendation, the owner started by telling us not to go the the Chinese place, because everyone who eats there gets sick. Her highest praise of any of the other 3-4 options in town was, "You probably won't get sick there." We ended up driving to the next town over to get a pizza. (The inn's brochure and website indicate that you can get pizza delivered, but that is not the case.) For breakfast the first day, they served sausage breakfast burritos, fruit, and biscuits with sausage gravy. I had neglected to request a vegetarian option for my travel companion, which of course was not their fault. However, it took at least an hour to be served, and we were the only ones there. A couple of times we nearly left because they hadn't said anything about what (if anything) was coming next, and they were gone so long we started to think they weren't coming back at all. The next day, after we had clearly told them there was a vegetarian in the group, they served a tiny fruit plate and a meat dish. And then disappeared without saying a word. We thought they might come back with at least biscuits again, but no such luck. We left hungry and, yes, a little sick to our stomachs from a weekend of dodgy food. The inn also advertises a free foot massage. This is the owner's way of trying to sell you her foot lotion and skin care products. She told us how she had trouble naming the brand because the FDA wouldn't let her make unsupported health claims about it, and then proceeded to make all of those claims anyways. Overall, we found this place to be relatively creepy.
