Victoria-On-Main B&B

This graceful Queen Anne Victorian, shaded by a tall birch tree, is in the heart of Whitewater National Historic District, adjacent to the University of Wisconsin. It was built for Edward Engebretson, mayor of Whitewater. Yellow tulip and sunny daffodils fill the spring flower beds, while fuchsias and geraniums bloom in summertime behind a picket fence. The inn's gables, flower-filled veranda and three-story turret feature a handsome green tin roof. Each guest room is named for a Wisconsin hardwood. The Red Oak Room, Cherry Room and Bird's Eye Maple Room all offer handsome antiques in their corresponding wood, Laura Ashley prints, antique sheets, pristine heirloom-laced pillowcases and down comforters. A hearty breakfast is sometimes served on the wraparound veranda, and there are kitchen facilities available for light meal preparation. Whitewater Lake and Kettle Moraine State Forest are five minutes away.

Hamilton House Bed & Breakfast

Local citizens saved Hamilton House, a fanciful Second Empire home, from the wrecking ball. The home is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The interior boasts original mantels, woodwork and stained glass. Most of the rooms include a fireplace, and some include a whirlpool tub. A full breakfast is served fireside on tables lit with candles. The Whitewater area offers four lakes and an abundance of outdoor activities, as well as shopping and theater.
