Ocracoke is a remote island that has gotten very busy in the last ten years. However the National Seashore still has miles of pristine beaches. Donna the Inn keeper is the real deal with a thick local accent and pictures of her family's fishing boats on the walls. The rooms seem new with wrought iron bed and large showers. Great breakfasts.

Tucked into a shady grove of trees in the heart of the village, on the southern end of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, this island home was built with heart pine and cedar shake. Listed in the National Register, the inn has been renovated to offer modern accessories like modems and air conditioning while retaining the flavor of its origins with post-and-canopy beds and a clawfoot tub. Breakfast includes an assortment of cereals, oatmeal, fruit, juice and pumpkin, apple, blueberry and apricot muffins. The porch sitting areas are pleasant places to appreciate the wisteria, flowering shrubs and plants that surround the property. Walk to the lighthouse and nearby shops.
