Lake Superior Splendor

Thimbleberry Inn B&B

Everything about the Thimbleberry made our anniversary stay perfect. The inn overlooks Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands in a very relaxing setting. The rooms have floor to ceiling windows to take full advantage of the spectacular view, yet felt private and commfortable. Sharon made us feel at home from the start and made perfect recommendations of area restaurants and attractions. She even made reservations for us. Her desserts, muffins, and breakfast were the icing on the cake. We look forward to our next stay.

The Best Way to Experience Bayfield

Thimbleberry Inn B&B

My wife and I have stayed at the Thimbleberry Inn approximately 5 times and we have never had any disappointments. The setting is beautiful, the rooms are spacious with simple but elegant furnishing plus great views of forest and water out of the windows. The food is exceptional (Sharon is a great cook!). But the best part is the wonderful hospitality that Sharon and Craig, the owners, always supply. They are warm and welcoming and make sure that you are well taken care of. They have a deep knowledge of the area and its resources which assures that your time in the area is well spent plus you want to come back and do the beckoning activities that you didn't have time to do. Our last stay was February 2010 for the "Book Across the Bay" 10K XC ski/snowshoe "race" between Ashland and Washburn across Chequamagon Bay at night, guided by luminaria. This is a great event to bring you to Bayfield in the winter!

We just spent our 19th wedding anniversary in Bayfield at the Thimbleberry Inn Bed & Breakfast. This was our 6th stay at The Thimbleberry Inn. Like a fine wine, Thimbleberry gets better with age. The food is outstanding and the atmosphere and rustic setting overlooking Lake Superior and Basswood Island makes this a GREAT romantic getaway. Sharon and Criag (Innkeppers) go out of their way to make sure your complete stay is top notch. We will be back again

Wonderful Retreat!

Wonderful Retreat Thimbleberry Inn As I write this review, I am recalling what my husband and I value most in a bed and breakfast. Qaualities that come to mind are 1) beautiful setting, relatively close to things to do; 2) comfortable, clean and spacious rooms with a homey feel; 3) great and imaginative food at breakfast; 4) quiet location; 5) warm and comfortable feel with the hosts. Sharon and Craig Locey far surpassed these qualities in providing us with a wonderful stay at their inn. The inn is beautifully located right on Lake Superior, with a view of one of the Apostle Islands. Tall pines, birches, and maples surround the inn and provide opportunities to view the local wildlife (chipmunks, foxes, minks, eagles, etc.). Our room had a loft bedroom overlooking the lake, which welcomed the breeze coming off of the lake in the evenings. Sharon and Craig are authentic people who take a sincere interest in making sure their guests have a wonderful experience while visiting the lake. Craig is an avid sailor and provided us with a relaxing and fun half day sailing trip around some of the islands. If you just mention something you want to do, Sharon will have the reservations made for you in an instant, plus she will offer great suggestions if you are at a loss. Now for the really good part.....Sharon's expertise and creativity in the kitchen! Sharon made sure each day started right and ended well, beginning with excellent coffee and homemade muffins on our own personal adirondack loveseat overlooking the lake. This was followed by a scrumptious breakfast and great conversation with other guests. In the evenings, we made sure to save room for Sharon's nightly desserts (a variety of cookies and melt-in-your-mouth chocolate filled brownies that I can't get out of my mind). In a word, Sharon and Craig provided for us what was the best bed and breakfast experience we have ever had. Their warmth is genuine, they take care of you, they truly treat you like family. We will be back!

As with all of the other reviews, we cannot say enough about this fabulous place and these truly wonderful innkeepers. Having stayed in many places in Bayfield, I don’t believe there is a more peaceful, relaxing place in all of the Bayfield Pennisula than the Thimbleberry Inn. Every room has a beautiful, forested view of at least 4 of the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior. Since the Inn was designed and built specifically to be a Bed and Breakfast, every room is very large, well appointed, and accessible with inside and outside entry. Craig and Sharon Locey are two of the most comfortable people you will ever want to meet, and Sharon’s mastery in the kitchen makes breakfast one of the great memories you’ll take from your stay. An award winning chef and a culinary instructor, Sharon’s snacks, breakfasts, and oh, those morning muffins, will keep you coming back. The Thimbleberry Inn is a delight that just should not be missed.

Our stay was fabulous from the minute we got there until the time we left. Both Sharon and Craig were warm, friendly, and very helpful (ideas for restaurants and activities). They are very knowledgeable about the area. We've been to lots of b&b's, but this one was special. You are greeted with warm muffins in the morning, a beautiful and delicious breakfast freshly made by Sharon, and an evening treat. It was comforting and easy to get used to. The property itself makes you appreciate the area as well. It sits right on Lake Superior and has a lovely view from any of the rooms and yard. The rooms were clean and modern, which we enjoyed. It's a one-of-a-kind place and feels magical. We hope to return again and want everyone to know what a wonderful place they have to offer.

There isn't much more you could ask for when on vacation! The Thimbleberry Inn offers clean and comfortable rooms with floor to ceiling windows looking out onto private woods and Lake Superior. But what really stands out is the hospitality, knowledge and helpfulness of the host and hostess, Craig and Sharon. They definitely make you feel like a guest and have in depth knowledge of the area, Bayfield restaurants, scenic cruises and activities to help you choose the best for whatever it is you want to do. Oh yes, and the food! Outstanding from the evening sweets to the coffee and hot breakfast muffins brought to your room before a hot breakfast is served in the dining room. The Thimbleberry Inn and Craig and Sharon are gifts to the world of travel, rest and relaxation.

After our third stay at the Thimbleberry Inn, I can't wait to return again. Everything is perfect - the quiet & remote location, the wooded surroundings and views of the lake, the clean and comfortable rooms, the evening treats and excellent hot breakfasts, the friendliness, knowledge and genuine hospitality of the owners, Sharon & Craig.

Sharon and Craig have lived a full life, and have opened their bed and breakfast in a pristine area overlooking Lake Superior. We enjoyed our stay immensly, choosing thier B & B soley because of the real log burning fireplace in each room, but getting so many other benefits. Our host was so wonderful to keep us warm, well fed, and acted as our own personal trip advisor. She suggested what to eat and where to get the best deal. She also keeps the rooms exceptionally clean and comfortable. The big windows look out into the forest and your own private bench overlooking the wonderful lake. Being the wintertime every night craig would get our fireplace going and we'd snuggle up with a cozy blanket and some freshly baked cookies/brownies and milk to end a great day of snowshoeing! wonderful time. Thank you Sharon!
