Circa 1829. Dr. John Russell and his son-in-law, Colonel Cooper, modeled a simple brick Federal house into a unique Victorian. Its sister structure is the Wedding Cake House of Kennebunk, Maine. There is a hand-painted plaster ceiling in the ballroom and a collection of Civil War items and antique medical devices. Woodwork is of cherry, maple and walnut, and there are etched and stained-glass windows. Hal Holbrook called the town "America's Hometown."
