our second visit and we would not look elsewhere for when we return to Ypsi

This was our second visit and we would not look elsewhere for when we return to Ypsi to visit family. The location is perfect and convenient, the home and courtyard are charming, luxurious, and inviting. The room is perfectly appointed, like a luxury hotel but with the comfort of being home (if your home is spotless and well decorated). The innkeepers are so friendly and predict your every need.

Romantic B & B -fit for a queen

We stayed at this charming b and b with my brother and his wife while in route to Mackinac Island. From the booking through the end of our stay, no detail was left undone. The residence is gorgeous, both inside and out. We all lamented we didn't stay here longer. Marla and Joe are wonderful hosts, and Marla creates a delicious breakfast. If you are looking for a romantic get away or driving through the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area, you will thoroughly enjoy your stay and yearn to return.

Great Mother-Daughter Getaway

My teen-age daughter and I have stayed here twice while in town for an event, and we thoroughly enjoyed it both times. She particularly enjoys the hammock in the courtyard, the quaint rooms, and the marvelous cookies and breakfasts. The innkeepers are welcoming and attentive, and the rooms comfortable and well-equipped. Thanks, Marla and Joe!

Treated Like Royalty!

You can't go wrong here!!! Absolutely everything is done to perfection, comfort, and luxury. Clean, clean, clean. Gardens are stunning! Breakfast is fabulous! This is probably our 4th or more stay here and we always stay in the Hoag room. Have family that lives nearby and we would rather come here after fun with the family for the quiet and pampering. This stay we had fill in innkeepers as Marla and Joe were out of town. Marilyn and Bob did a FABULOUS job! If we were newbies, we would have never known that they were not the owners. They took care of us like it was their own. You are in good hands here, no matter who is in charge. Will be back in July! Can't wait.

Awesome!!!

Thank you SO MUCH Marla and Joe for everything! You have far surpassed the highest bar of excellence! Our stay was so incredible, from the moment we walked in we knew this was someplace very special. The beauty of the residence is only surpassed by your incredible hospitality, and we feel so fortunate to have been so spoiled! The rooms, breakfast, history and originality are a dream. If you're thinking of staying at a special place, you need not look any further!!

The perfect

My husband and I stayed here in the Hoag room for two nights while exploring Ann Arbor. We loved everything about our experience. The room was gorgeous and immaculately maintained. Marla prepared hot gourmet breakfasts for us each morning. Joe and Marla were both friendly and helpful, with good recommendations for restaurants and lots of great stories. Make sure you ask to see the old tavern downstairs if you visit! As a young couple this was our first "bed and breakfast" trip, and now we're worried Joe and Marla may have spoiled us so much that no other place will ever measure up.

Great Place to Stay

Marla and Joe are very friendly and made us feel completely at home. Breakfast was delicious and filling. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. I would highly recommend The Queen's Residence if you are staying in the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area.

A prize

This was our first stay in a bed and breakfast. We won a night's stay here from playing "The Price is Right" at Aubrees. A treat for the two of us to celebrate our 1 year anniversary, especially since we live 4 hours apart. We really enjoyed sitting in the library reading before going out for the evening. We brought our dinner here and enjoyed that in the dining room. Then played a board game by the fire downstairs. We took a bubbly plastic cup of water to the hot tub and they enjoyed a movie from your DVD collection. The collected history, ambience, and luxury of the stay was so special. We will love to come here again. P.S. and the bed was SO comfy. We thought the tavern was so great too!

Memories of The Queen's Residence

Raiding the cookie jar at midnight, falling asleep on the leather couch in the parlor, tiptoeing down at 6 a.m to get tea to have by the fireplace in our room. And maybe the best of all, the 55th anniversary party for Ron and Betsy in the tavern; a fun, sharing evening! Thank you.

Home Away From Home

This was our first experience in a B & B and I have to say it was wonderful! I have never felt more comfortable away from home. Everything was perfect. Joe and Marla thought of every little detail from a wonderful night's sleep to a delicious breakfast. I only wish we could stay longer. We hope to come back and visit soon!

Confessed B & B Snobs

Our stay here was just for a night on the way to Mackinac Island. What a wonderful surprise we found here in Ypsilanti of all places! We are confessed B & B snobs and always seek out the best and you have FAR EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS! We were here on my husband's 49th birthday and had dinner in the tavern. Marla, you went above and beyond. We applaud your attention to detail which elevates your B & B to the top of the charts. From flip flops for the hot tub, chocolate chip cookies, beverage fridge to a sumptuous breakfast; lovely appointments in our room. Fabulous mattress, lovely to laze in linens, luxurious bath towels that smell heavenly! you were both wonderful and gracious hosts which helped to make this a top-notch experience.

Stunning!

This is a beautiful old house lovingly preserved by the two delightful hosts. The house is full of quirky items that Marla has collected on her travels and there is an enormous attention to detail. The room that we had was wonderful: a separate reading room, an enormous bedroom and a bathroom with everything you could wish for. The breakfasts were delicious and the tour of the tavern a real highlight. A must stay!

A Royal Residence in Ypsilanti MI!

I previously stayed at The Queen's Residence B&B for one night in the Barnard Room, which is lovely. I learned from Joe and Marla Queen, the wonderful innkeepers, that they would soon have a first floor room (no stairs) added to their gorgeous Victorian historic property. Many months before my stay, I reserved it because it was so popular with other guests, and soon learned why. The Hoag Room, named after a previous owner of this beautiful residence, has two entrances - one directly off the dining room, and the other leading directly to a veranda with soaring pillars, with wicker furniture and tables and chairs for dining or enjoying your favorite beverage. The grounds of the entire house are shaded with many trees, and there are many beautiful flower gardens (which the innkeepers tend themselves), with seating areas so you can enjoy the lovely ambiance of this home. The Hoag Room is decorated in reds, golds and browns, with period detail and many antiques, just like the rest of this lovely property. There is a step-in shower of beautiful white and gray marble and a seating area within, a vanity with mirror just outside the shower, and a separate bathroom with lo-flo toilet and sink (the toilet/sink room has a door that may be closed). There is also a hallway, complete with antique telephone. The hallway has a ceiling-high (12 feet?) long set of cabinets with extra towels, blankets etc. and the lower cabinets have a long horizontal surface where there are wine or water glasses. Outside the dining room is a small refrigerator for guests which contains many varieties of soda pop and large glass water bottles with caps, for guests who would like to take water to their rooms. In this little area there are also coffee and tea for guests to help themselves, and a large lidded glass jar of Marla's delicious cookies of many varieties. A small chalkboard above the coffee/tea area states what time breakfast will be served the following day. I stayed for almost a week, and each morning the breakfast was different, and always delicious. Every breakfast began with fruit juices, coffee and tea, a fruit cup with a changing variety of fruit, and Greek Gods yogurt (so amazing I had to buy some when I returned to the west coast). The first morning the main course was a scramble with eggs, spinach and salmon served on croissants, hash browns and crisp bacon, and delicious muffin. Some of the other days were a wedge of a pancake filled with apples and topped with ice cream, scrambled eggs and herbs, and link sausage; vegetable quiche with crisp bacon and home fry potatoes; and the last morning was eggs Benedict with hollaindaise sauce, a ramekin of shredded au gratin/lyonnaise potatoes, bacon and delicious zucchini bread. Marla works with each guest's usual food choices (if they don't eat meat, for example) but I think I was pretty easy, as I loved everything she served! Joe and Marla are cheerful, friendly, wonderful people who do everything to assure each guest that they will have a wonderful time during their stay. Their suggestions about local events, restaurants and attractions are just right (I know, because I used to live in the area for many years, and I learned of some that I didn't even know about!). This home has a history that is connected with Henry Ford. One of the owners was the procuror of properties for Mr. Ford when he was putting together Greenfield Village, and when he decided that the Wild Turkey Tavern would not be part of the Village after all, he gave the tavern to the owner/procuror, who had the building deconstructed and installed in the basement of The Queen's Residence. Joe and Marla are happy to take you on a tour of it, and you will definitely get a feeling for what it was like in the 1700s. By lantern light you will see furniture from the era, and the huge fireplace, still being used, is big enough for several cauldrons for cooking - an amazing sight. There is a bar, and the main room has several long tables suitable for about 20 people, if one of Joe and Marla's B&B guests wanted to use it for a small group event. As soon as I left, I was already wanting to return!

Comfortable and beautiful

Not only is the inn beautiful but the innkeepers are very accommodating and welcoming, making one's stay very comfortable. The innkeepers are available if needed but do not hover - which works for us. The outside gardens and porch are wonderful extra places to hang out and the house is located in a neighborhood of other beautiful historic homes. We have come twice to the inn and hope to return again!

Romantic home away from home

Having family in the area we have stayed at the Queen's Residence many times in the past 6 or 7 years. We are always looking forward to Marla's and Joe's warm welcome, a comfortable room (Gibson has become our favorite) and the delicious breakfasts (egg benedict, frittata, pancakes with carrots, nuts and raisins) prepared by Marla. Good location near 94 so convenient to go to Detroit or Ann Arbor.

An Idyllic Sojourn

The two nights at The Queen's Residence were delightful from the moment I was met at the gate in welcome. The gardens are in bloom, the fountains were bubbling and after a tour of the common rooms of the house including where to find the breakfast time board, the homemade cookies and the Keurig coffeemaker, Marla introduced me to the Gibson Suite. The windows on 3 sides complement the muted colors of the furniture and lush carpets, and at sunset, the west windows offer a few minutes of fairytale lighting. The bedding is sumptuous, the shower with its multiple jets is an experience in itself. Marla and Joe Queen are marvelous innkeepers, and I will share the Queen's Residence again in the near future. Magnificent lodging!

If you think of a cozy, beautiful place, you got it. If you think, well, breakfast must be good in a B&B, you are going to experience being in heaven every morning! Marla and Joe are just one of best people I met in my whole life! Their generosity is beyond any expectations. When they say: "Prepare to be pampered!" They really mean it! More than home away from home

We are sincerely thankful to Joe & Marla for opening up their home and their hearts to us throughout our 11 day stay at this truly outstanding B&B. Although on a first visit to the USA, we felt to close to being at home and very privileged of the whole experience. Joe & Marla provided service far beyond expectation and their support and friendship.

BEST graduation weekend, EVER!

We made our reservation with Joe and Marla nearly 7 months in advance for my husband's graduation from U of M Law School. The weekend couldn't have been better in large part due to Marla and Joe. We filled all the rooms, had oodles of family and friends over, even had a party in their lovely outdoor space and it felt like home, well better than home because we didn't have to do dishes! Absolutely everything about this B and B is great. The food gets 5 stars in ALL CAPS. Also, we had our 1.5 year old with us and felt so welcomed, which made all the difference for us. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Awesome place!

My wife and I accidentally happened upon this amazing B&B. We had been looking for a room in the Ann Arbor area and everything was booked. Right before I called the Queen's Residence they had a cancellation. We had not heard anything about it before so we were a bit leery of what we would encounter. What a beautiful surprise. Not only were the accommodations first class, the food was also. Throw in to the mix the owners Marla and Joe and the experience becomes a great one. We highly recommend the Queen's Residence. The name fits because it is Royal treatment.

Marla and Joe were exceptionally welcoming and hospitable and I only wish that we had more excuses to stay the night one town over from our own home! The historic decor is beautifully matched with the lovely building, the rooms are both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing, and breakfast was AMAZING. What a deal... Enchanting!

Joe and Marla Queen have created a magical jewel in Ypsilanti that exemplifies a beauty, hospitality and originality which we had never encountered anywhere in our travels! From the exquisite comfort of our bed to the intricate attention to every possible desire that we might have as their guests, accommodating our need for a place to find a tranquil rest through creating an impeccable Victorian retreat with incredible service, Marla and Jo have elevated their profession as hosts to an art form unmatched! Their meticulous attention to the most minuet details, whether a lovely antique hat placed in just the right spot or a breakfast which would be the pride of any trained chef, left us feeling pampered in a way that coddled our souls. Our only regret is that we did not plan a longer stay… but next time we will!

Wonderful Stay

My husband and I stayed at the The Queen's Residence for 4 days and nights and had a wonderful time! Joe and Marla, the innkeepers, are absolutely wonderful and really made us feel comfortable and welcome. Our room was absolutely beautiful as was all of the home. The breakfasts were absolutely amazing! Marla is quite the chef. We had assorted fruit everyday, granola and yogurt, fresh baked muffins, and everything from eggs benedict to a decadent stuffed french toast. The garden frittata was probably one of the best frittatas we've ever had! I actually asked Marla for a few of her recipes. We can't wait to visit Michigan again just so that we can stay here :)

A Warm Welcome on a Chilly Night

We marveled at the extraordinary level of detail that Marla and Joe have created to complete this stately Victorian mansion. They are warm-hearted folks who epitomize hospitality while bringing to their B & B a museum curator's touch. No extra effort was spared!

Bridal Shower

Last month I gave my daughter-in-law-to-be a bridal shower at the Queen's Residence. I could not have asked for a more perfect setting. We dined in the larger (of two) dining room that was easily able to seat the 13 of us. We then moved to the "Ladies Lounge" for gifts and socializing. Marla and Joe, our B&B hosts were gracious and very helpful. The shower guests could not get over how beautiful the setting was right down to the smallest details. I enjoy long parties and the 4 hour shower flowed seamlessly. Honestly I am trying to think of another occasion to have at the Queen's Residence.

Happy New Year and Happy New Couple

After attending two weddings at this delightful venue, I must say it was fantastic to also toast in 2009 with the exceedingly warm and professional Queens! Every detail of their service - and home - was luxurious and delightful. Hearty meals, relaxed atmosphere, and an indulgence for the history buff... I highly recommend this venue for any romantic or intimate event... or "getaway"!

Exceptional Hospitality!

We stayed at the Queen's Residence during Parents Weekend at the University of Michigan. The chocolate chip cookies were only surpassed by Joe & Marla's hospitality! The Inn is beautiful and the accommodations surpassed our expectations!

Best Night Ever!

My fiance and I absolutely loved the Queen's Inn. We enjoyed the ambiance and thought it to be very romantic. Joe and Marla were gracious hosts and very welcoming. The Barnard Room was inviting and comforting. I liked the fact that the modern amenities were available, but hidden away. The hot tub was comforting after a long day. We will be telling all of our friends and family about our wonderful evening.

Romantic Getaway

Although we were in Ypsilanti to visit family, The Queen's Residence B&B turned out to be a mini-romantic vacation for us. The hosts were terrific, the breakfasts great (one should be careful not to eat too much), and the room comfortable and cozy. We wish we had had time to use the hot tub -- maybe next time.

Romantic anniversary weekend

Besides the amazing attention to detail, the chocolates and cheesecakes, the use of the hot tub and the gentleman's parlor, the library and the fantastic breakfast, our favorite part for our 1st wedding anniversary was the candle lit dinner in the 18th century tavern downstairs, with the fire crackling in the fireplace while Joe and Marla served it to us. Absolutely amazing. There was not a thing that could have gone better or differently. But perhaps we are a little biased? After all, our wedding took place here a year ago. And it was so amazing to come back and say our vows again in the enchanted garden of this fantastic inn.

Wonderful weekend

Our weekend at the Queen’s Residence was wonderful! >From the breakfast cuisine, to the quiet peaceful elegance of the Bed and Breakfast itself; nothing could have been finer. If you have a hearty morning appetite, this is the place for you. We will not soon forget the Eggs Benedict, Spinach Quiche or Blueberry Muffins. We warmed ourselves by the fire in the downstairs parlor. Each evening we were welcomed into our room with soft relaxing chamber music. Scores of books and videos were in the library, adjacent to our bedroom suite. They were at our fingertips to enjoy in the privacy of our own Queen’s Room. Joe and Marla are the perfect hosts. They are good conversationalists with rich full lives. They have traveled extensively and obviously enjoy meeting new people. They provided us with information on tourist spots including places to dine and shop in Ypsilanti and surrounding areas. We learned much about the area as we chatted with locals about their history, enjoyed a reception at the Art Museum, toured the Firehouse Museum, and visited the Automotive Museum. Our hosts also provided us with information on places to dine and shop. We fell in love with the Sidetrack Bar and Grill. The atmosphere was pleasantly busy, the food was great, and it was quite affordable. Who says you have to travel hundreds of miles away to enjoy a much needed great escape. Whether going out on the town, or relaxing in the quiet seclusion of an elegant 19th Century home; this mini vacation fit the bill. We came away feeling pampered and replenished from a long winter, demanding schedules, and familiar routines of everyday life. We look forward to coming back again when we can visit nearby Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum or just simply relax.

Absolutely Amazing...

I highly recommend the Queen's Residence B&B. Their Victorian home is filled with history and ambience. The Queen's are probably the NICEST couple we've ever met! Their attention to detail really showed how much they care! From the chocolate covered strawberries to the provided flip-flops for the hot tub to the amazing breakfast quiche, it was exquisite! We can't WAIT to return!

A Great Getaway!

We visited the Queen's Residence as a weekend getaway. It was our first visit to a B&B. Any B&B that we visit in the future will have big shoes to fill! The Victorian atmosphere is very inviting. Attention to detail was impeccable: everything you need to enjoy the outside hot-tub, wine by the fireplace in the evening, complementary soft drinks and snacks, coffee brought to the library for you in the morning and fresh flowers in the room. You won't get a better breakfast at twice the price! The 1700's era tavern in the basement is itself worth the trip! Marla and Joe are great hosts!

Absolutely amazing!

We decided to come at the very last minute (10 p.m. the night before) but the service was impeccable. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, with tons of variety, muffins, quiche, breakfast meat, granola, fresh fruit, etc. The house itself was amazing, and it has a real 1700s tavern in the basement, brought from Connecticut plank by plank. The room was outstanding, with its own sitting room and bathroom, (other rooms had fireplaces 2 person showers and other neat additions) and the bedding was amazing -- super comfortable. Every time I went into a room I was surprised by another detail in decoration I had missed the first time. I can't say enough good things about this B&B -- you won't be disappointed.

Royal Treatment

My husband surprised me with a Valentine's stay at the regal Queen's Residence in Ypsilanti, MI, near historic Depot Town. The rooms were wonderfully romantic, filled with fresh flowers and beautiful antiques. The breakfasts were exquisite and decadent. Joe and Marla Queen, were the ultimate hosts, attending to our every need and want. The hot tub felt wonderful after a cold, snowy day. The 17th century pub, given to the former owners by Henry Ford, is situated under the main house. It truly is a sight to be seen. While you are at The Queen's Residence, you are treated like royalty. It was a GREAT experience.
