Circa 1901. A view of the Green Mountains can be seen from this Victorian inn, which is set on a mountainside surrounded by gardens and overlooking an apple orchard and pond. The picturesque inn also affords a view of the village of Northfield and historic Norwich University. Rooms are decorated with antiques and Oriental rugs, and bedrooms feature European feather bedding and brass and carved-wood beds. Many outdoor activities are available on the three-acre property, including croquet, horseshoes, ice skating and sledding. Visitors may want to take a climb uphill to visit the Old Slate Quarry or just relax on one of the porches overlooking the garden with bird songs, wind chimes and gentle breezes.

made reservations 30 days in advance for one night to attend our sons graduation. confirmed reservation by phone and with e-mail. proprieter called 10 days out and stated it was her policy to rent rooms for a minimum of 6 days in advanceonly during graduation weeks. also stated we would not be in a queen sized bed, but on the third floor in the parlor with a fold out cot. the worst shakedown i've ever encountered in 20 years of military service and 17 of law enforcement.

Management Response
We are located on a mountainside overlooking the campus of Norwich University, the oldest private military college in our nation and proud to serve the University, the students and their families. Since there is not an abundance of lodging accommodations in the area, whenever the University has a special event we establish a minimum stay requirement for the duration of that event in order to serve the attendees for that event. The Norwich University Graduate School is and online program which is attended by many of the military student alumni who are overseas serving our country. When they complete their studies they must serve a five day residency and then their Commencement, therefore, we have a six-night minimum each year for that event. Mr. Redner succeeded in intimidating my housekeeper by boasting his law enforcement and military career and "strong-armed" her into agreeing to take a one-night reservation preventing us from taking a 6-night graduate student. After turning away a female officer serving in Hawaii and a Norwich alumni serving in Afghanistan who is coming home for his residency and Commencement, I decided to call Mr. Redner to see if he would consider giving up the room so that we could accommodate the military students whom we pick up from the airport so that they don't need to bear the cost of renting cars. Mrs. Redner answered the telephone and was very kind but did not want to make the decision and requested that I hold on while she call Mr. Redner to the telephone. The next thing I heard was shouting on how many years he served in law enforcement and in the military and how this sort of thing never happens to him and how he was going to write all over the Internet how we mistreated him. . . . . I never got a word in to even apologize. . . or even to offer any compensation before he slammed the telephone down. It is with deep regret that this upset him so much but I am afraid to call him again to even ask if he is keeping the reservation or not, or if we should contact the Marine in Afghanistan. I have been operating The Northfield Inn for 22 years and have never encountered anyone or any such situation as this and feel totally unprepared to deal with it. Best regards, Aglaia
