“Charming?”
Hilary Spangler (2 reviews)
I have to say I am floored by the lack of warmth and friendliness of the Inn Keepers......I don't recognize them from the other reviews. Lisa clearly took a personal dislike to me - why? Because I'm English and she is German? Did I remind her of someone she dislikes? I'm sure most people come away charmed - the food is outstanding. I left with a massive headache having felt most unwelcome. After an extremely unpleasant stay we arrived home to an email informing us we had 'inadvertently' taken a queen size pillow and if we 'chose' not to return it our credit card would be charge $140! Insult to injury! I could see a remote accidentally falling into luggage but a large pillow? I replied to tell them I had not taken any pillows and I am most offended at the accusation, (plus when they found the pillow I expected an apology). Lisa’s husband Jim replied and apologized.
Imagine the most unpleasant trip you have ever had to your in-laws or a situation where you were unfairly singled out and embarrassed/ humiliated, then add $550 to the injury and an accusation of theft thrown in for good measure – this was my experience. The staff is friendly, the food is great, but the inn keepers have the sweetness and charm of sea-sick crocodiles! But this is just one person’s experience; according to the other reviews most people like the place. Although there is the risk Jim or Lisa takes an irrational and personal dislike to you – then you also could feel kicked around and abused by them. BTW do NOT ask if it’s possible to change tables at breakfast to sit with friends! Also don’t take children – I think Lisa hates children – even well behaved ones.

“Not for families, but g rear food”
Hilary Jenkins (2 reviews)
Typically, I think of inn keepers as warm, welcoming and friendly........these ones diverge from this notion 180 degrees! The food was great, the rooms pleasant (no acoustic insulation though) but the trip was underscored by the owners who had all the charm and charisma of prison guards. Their rigidity was astonishing. We paid almost $500 for one night ( inclluding dinner), I have never felt so unwelcome in a hotel in my life. We have two boys 7 and 9 years old, who were very well behaved (they were a little excited when we arrived) but they quietly sat and ate dinner with us and were more less seen and not heard. The owners clearly don't want children here, even well behaved ones. We were part of a group of fourteen ( a reunion - adults in their 50s and sixties) I would have hoped for a little more curtesy and accommodation. The staff for the most part and friendly and pleasant, the food was great, but the owners are socially I'll equipped and should have no contact with the patrons.

“Romantic Retreat”

We stayed at the elegant Mercersburg Inn in Autumn and the trees on the grounds were gorgeous! The "Romantic Retreat" was a cozy room with a fireplace and jacuzzi and a soft, luxurious bed. We enjoyed the large game room and the breakfasts were delicious! We decided to have dinner there one evening and the meal was excellent! We will definitely be back!
