You will be much happier if you stay somewhere else. I assure you. My husband and I have stayed in more than 100 B&B’s during the past 25 years in every region of the country. The Inn at Trout River is clearly the most tired B&B we have ever visited. One sees the tiredness approaching the inn – it needed fresh paint and some repairs several years ago, and last winter’s wreath (dried, withered and brown) still hangs on the front façade in the heat of July. The owners are elderly and clearly in weak health – I wish them both well, but they should have sold their B&B several years ago and retired. They are very tired of the work, and forcefully stated this more than once. Their tiredness is reflected in all aspects of the inn. In the end, we rushed from the inn because we could no longer tolerate the long monologues about their poor health as well as the many surgeries and recoveries they have endured. A young couple, who were the only other guests, appeared to be equally annoyed. Breakfast was probably the weakest aspect of our stay. The owners require guests to order from a fixed menu, rather than the flexibility one would expect with a total of four guests. And although the menu boasted of Vermont Cabot cheese, other high quality ingredients, and traditional hash brown potatoes, we were served overcooked eggs, tiny glasses of juice, greasy deep-fried potato slices, and processed American cheese.

Abbie (2 reviews)so my now husband and I booked a room at this Inn for the 2004 new years eve. We were so excited to get away from NYC and spend a secluded few days in VT. The inn itself is picturesque and everything it claimed to be but upon arriving and being asked if we were married we experienced nothing but rudeness by the innkeepers. They took us to our room and barely spoke to us for the rest of the stay while they spent hours conversing with other guests. This made for a very uncomfortable stay and the reason we will never return. However if you are married and can therefore pass the admissions test the food at the restaurant was excellent and the breakfast was very satisfying!
