Underwhelmed at Lincoln Square

Fell short of expectations overall. ~The parking lot in the narrow alley behind the Inn is a VERY tight fit. Tiny, but there IS parking so that is a plus. Noises from the sidewalk and street were intrusive in the Irene Danner suite. Overall the suite seemed dreary to me, what with the very stained, shabby mauve carpet, overstuffed dark furniture, no TV in the sitting room area, and a gas "wood-stove" that was reluctant to ignite, paint flakes along the edges of the carpet. The bathtub area has mildew, the toiletries are very low-budget. When we turned down the sheets we found a variety of hair. I do have plenty of photos as I always document my travels very well. I did post some of those on TripAd. WiFi was weak, but at least it is available. The Inn does not provide a cooked breakfast, but instead gives guests a bowl of fruit and several muffins. The fruit we had was FAR from fresh, consisting only of vintage oranges and bruised apples. As these are purported (by the owner) to be LOCALLY grown apples I can understand why they would be bruised by the end of January! There are positives: the Innkeeper was very welcoming. The location is great for strolling the town. The suite is spacious. There is a kitchenette in the sitting area, which was quite clean although the carpet near that area was wet. The front of the building is very attractive. When staying in tourist areas one must expect an amount of variance from the advertised hype and the reality. My review reflects my honest experience, and I do not give high ratings simply based on the convenient street location of a property. Nor will I overlook mildew because a place is considered historical.
