Historic Interest

The Historic Dayton House stands at 1311 4th Avenue as a visible representation of Worthington's early days and as a symbol of civic leadership and business success. It is unique both in the time of its grand appearance in a small prairie town in the late 1800s and in its ownership for well over a century. Three families related through business, blood, and marriage-the Daytons, the Smallwoods, and the Cashels-owned and lived in the house over time. Each contributed in unique ways to the community and its surrounds.

Slept like babies!

Fabulous! We had an amazing time here at the Dayton House. We were welcomed with open arms. The room was ultra "cush" and we slept like babes. We highly recommend this lovely B&B!

Mother and Daughter time!

We wanted to see what this Historic home looked like and how it was painted . . . WOW! Oh, how we enjoyed our stay . . . we played and sang at the piano, sat out on the porch, and we talked half the night away. What a heart-warming experience for a Mother and Daughter!

Loved our stay here. Very nice. Beautiful. Elegant. Splendid. Romantic. Yet - Warm. Cozy. Friendly. The house is beautiful and our stay peaceful and relaxing.

Thanks for the memories!

At first glance at this beautiful home my heart skipped a beat. "Wow!" As we entered, the atmosphere and aroma brought me back to a time and place form my childhood on the old family farm. Our evening was full of laughter and romance. The warmth of this home will stay in our memories and hearts for the rest of our days. Thanks for the memories!

Appealing to all generations!

Our stay included three generations: myself, my mother, and my son, representing a 50 year time span. Each one of us found the Dayton House to be utterly charming. What a wonderful opportunity to live a few days in a different era.

Blizzard Couldn't Stop True Love Wedding

I married the man of my dreams in this house. We had planned on holding hte ceremony in a small church [in a town nearby], but the blizzard of a quarter century altered our plans. We had planned to have the dinner at the Historic Dayton House after the wedding and instead held the wedding here, too. I got ready in the Dayton Suite with my sisters and at 3:00 p.m. I walked down the grand staircase and we were married in the presence of twenty-one guests. We ate quickly and everyone else left before the storm hit. My husband and I loved every minute of our snowed-in Honeymoon ~ this house was a perfectly romantic location for us . . . we are so happy!

What a Treat!

My sister and I stayed for two nights - basically had the whole house to ourselves! What a treat. So relaxing and it gave us lots of time to look around thoroughly at all the lovely things in the house - just exquisite. The warmth and hospitality of the staff finished off the entire experience and made it sooo relaxing and renewing. Wonderful time!

New Experience

It's hard to imagine how anything could have been any better. The house is a true historical landmark, yet for two days we were able to treat it like home. I haven't experienced anything like that. This has truly been a wonderful weekend.

Truly Amazing!

The house and the antiques are truly amazing. Although we are only here for one night, your hospitality was great and so was the "ambiance." Thanks again for everything.

This historic home is the tops!

We love history and beautiful historical old home and this one tops the list. We have been in many restored homes and none are more beautiful or skillfully done. Usually, when we see or stay at one we are ready for the next one - we must say we want to come back! Thank you so much for giving us such an awesome piece of history.

Perfect place for a reception!

We traveled form Washington state to celebrate the wedding reception of our son and daughter-in-law. I could not imagine a more perfect setting for a reception and being able to be overnight guests the night before was very special. The restoration of this home is beautiful! Thank you to the staff for making our stay and event a truly memorable experience!

Epitome of gracious hospitality.

My husband and I are Midwesterners whose careers required that we move South. Worthington and the Dayton House reflect many of the things we miss about this part of the country: a respect for the past and the lessons history has to teach us and progressive actions that address the challenges of the present and future. The Dayton House has provided a beautiful setting for our family to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and my mother's 90th birthday. What a beautiful place for a family celebration. The staff has been the epitome of gracious hospitality.
