Dubuque's Best B&B

We have returned many times to visit Susan & Chuck at The Hancock House. The rooms are awesome, the food is to die for but best of all Susan & Chuck are friends that welcome us graciously into their home. We'll be back!

Romantic

I grew up in Dubuque and knew about this magnificent house long before it was a bed and breakfast. Staying at The Hancock House is like coming home but with a much better location than my parent's house. My family is now gone from Dubuque, but the Hancock House helps to keep me connected to my roots. If you want to experience Dubuque at its finest, then The Hancock House is the only place to stay.

Hospitality is overwhelming!

There are a lot of choices for lodging in the Dubuque and Gallena area. Bud and I always come back to the Hancock House...primarily for the hospitality. "Chuck and Susan" very quickly become friends...interested in all their guests as well as sharing their lives and "home". It is the best!

Our Favorite B&B

We stayed at the Hancock House last Thursday through Sunday and absolutely loved the house and the owner/innkeepers. The breakfasts were delicious and the hospitality was so welcoming. We have stayed here before and although the weather outside was cold, inside was so relaxing and enjoyable. Make sure you don't miss staying at this B&B. Dan & Mary Lou

Fabulous!

This elegant house on the cliffs overlooking Dubuque is a wonderful weekend retreat. Susan and Chuck are the most friendly and accommodating hosts and make you feel right at home. Breakfast is fabulous and beautifully served at the huge dining room table. We look forward to our stay there every year.

The elegance of yesteryear

Two days and nights with friends in this glorious old home was a definitely the way to shrug off the blahs of winter. The food was amazing and the hosts could not have been more cordial. The fixtures were vintage, unique, beautiful and yet we had a wifi connection. The home was immaculately clean and the type of place that made history come alive. The Handcock house is a beautiful page from yesteryear.

Wonderful weekend

We enjoyed two nights in this absolutly wonderful inn. Susan and Chuck are experienced innkeepers that know how to make your stay enjoyable. The inn is spotless and what a history lesson of early Dubuque. You can't go wrong staying here. And you won't be able to wait until you can return.

My

When traveling through Dubuque/Galena, I only stay at the Hancock House. The home is cozy and welcoming and CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN. Susan and Chuck ensure the ultimate in hospitality. The house is a living and vibrant lesson in local history and lore. And if a flavorful breakfast is important, then the Hancock House is a great way to start you day. You will not go wrong making your stay at the Hancock House! Even my husband loved it and he is always the B&B critic.

Creative retreat

I certainly enjoyed the stay - several of my friends came and the hosts (Susan and Chuck) graciously allowed us to do our creative crafts (card projects and quilting). Delicious food, beautiful setting, fun conversation. We all had a relaxing and productive retreat. What a great place for it all to come together.

Breathtaking View

The weekend my partner and I spent here was amazing. We could have not asked for a better stay. We stayed in the library which we believed was the best room at the inn. The library room was the most spacious, had a whirlpool tub, and was a dim room, which made it great to sleep in. The innkeepers were very friendly and held a very warm welcome with an amazing breakfast in the morning. This stay makes us eager to have another B&B experience again!

First Time Bed and Breakfast

I chose this location after searching all over the internet. The reviews were fantastic so I decided to go ahead and book and i'm glad I did! We were celebrating a late Valentines Day gift and early Anniversary gift, turns out we'd also be celebrating an engagement on the last night! It was our first time staying at a B&B, and it was a great introduction! The rooms were each so unique and clean, the breakfasts were fantastic, and their porch over looking the area was well put to use! Thank you for a fantastic stay! We are already talking about going back!

Grand stay

I had the marvelous opportunity to spend five nights at the Hancock House in October, 2013. The house was in great condition, a masterpiece of Victorian design. The care given by Susan and Chuck Huntley was right on target....attentive, but not hovering. They knew the answer to every question I asked about the community and its environs, even some that one wouldn't expect an innkeeper to know. Job well done.

Excellent, Friendly, and Romantic

We have been staying at the Hancock House for over ten years while visiting relatives in Dubuque. The hosts Chuck and Susan are very friendly, and we enjoy seeing them as much as family. The rooms are clean and quiet, the house and view of Dubuque are beautiful, and the breakfasts are delicious. It's a great place to stay.

Amazing view

Our stay at the Hancock House was wonderful. We absolutely loved the Ballroom Suite. Sitting on the porch taking in the view was amazing day and night. The view looking down on Dubuque was peaceful and quite. The inn keepers are a joy to meet!

Hard to Compare Any Other

As I told the owners, any other bed and breakfast that we ever stay in will have a hard time measuring up to our first experience. The house is a beauitful old victorian set upon a hill overlooking the city. Landscaping was obviously well manicured throughout the year (even for early spring before blooming season). Inside the house you are welcomed into a parlor with a table to sit at, brochures of both the Inn and surrounding attractions. There's two sitting rooms off to each side with large windows overlooking the city. A suprise for us was the maid's pantry off of the dining room. Water, tea, soda, coffee & cookies were made available for guests. Before even deciding if we were going to stay there Chuck offered to show us all available rooms. He's a very friendly, kind, knowledgable man. We had a hard time choosing between two of the whirlpool rooms & decided to stay in one on the third floor. Beautiful, time period decorations surrounded us along with an oversized whirlpool. Breakfast was absolutely amazing! Susan is very hospitable and an excellent chef. Both owners know when to give space, but also made sure to talk to each one of the guests in the house making us all feel welcomed. They stay for breakfast and make sure you are attended to. Beds were comfortable and the overall accomodations were better than any hotel. Anytime we are in Dubuque, the Hancock House is where we will stay. Thanks guys!
