Romantic Interest

The Victorian Architecture offers a lot of nice little spots to discover - walk around the house for hours and still find more and more wonderful little details. Have a seat on one of the porches and simply enjoy the beauty of the place, hang out in the hammock or sit in one of the little swings at the pond to watch the dragon flies playing in the sun.

Describe Garden and Grounds

The Inn sits peacefully on a nicely landscaped 5 acre lot. We have huge old trees, more than 100 year old boxwoods, a little forest, a little wilderness, flower gardens, beautiful rose bushes, two ponds, a patio, porches, a heated outdoor pool, lots of wildlife... We have around 50-70 birds on the property, some rabbit families live here, deer step by occasionally - it is simply beautiful.

Romantic Stay

We had a beautiful very large romantic suite called 'Shiraz' with a very comfortable king bed. Suite was very clean, very private, in a separate building from the main house. It had a fenced yard if you had a dog or pet! Breakfasts were delicious, and we enjoyed conversing with the host Tom!

A Romantic Oasis!

My fiancee and I spent a long weekend at The Garden and Sea Inn and were so happily impressed. Everything was simply perfect - beautiful gardens, comfortable well-appointed rooms, great food, friendly hosts. The food was so good that we jumped at the chance when offered seconds! Be sure to eat dinner at the inn at least one night during your stay. We had the most wonderful crab cakes and fillet. The innkeepers are simply amazing - both Thomas and Doro are friendly, happy to help in any way, and are so knowledgeable about the area. They were able to send us for the "best" of what we asked about - sight-seeing, ice cream, seafood, bakeries, etc. They did their absolute best to make our stay enjoyable and memorable. We'll be going again within the next six months - we are so happy to have booked all nine rooms for our wedding! Need anymore be said?

A Gem in Virginia!

Can you imagine three people, four dogs...and a perfect time? That's typical of the Garden and Sea Inn. Tom and Dorothy are graciousness personified. The Inn is charming and spotless; the rooms large and airy; and the food beyond belief! We stayed three nights and had dinner at the Inn on Saturday -- what a feast! Treat yourself to a wonderful getaway -- with or without the furkids!

Great Place

The Garden & Sea Inn is an excellent place to bring your dog, as we did. We liked the screened-in porch of the Sandpiper Room and greatly appreciated the hospitality and friendliness of owners Dorothee and Thomas

Worth a visit

Enjoyed our overnight here. Full of charm. The dinner emulated any fine dining experience, food was full of flavor, interesting, and fresh. I slept very comfortably which is unusual for me in a new place. Innkeepers were happy and welcoming.

A Jewel of an Inn

I've been staying at the Garden and Sea for four years. Every time, I am amazed they they've made it even better. Dorothy and Thomas have exquisite taste in decor and food, and their warmth and hospitality are beyond compare. I take my Shelties every time, and we all relax and unwind. I can't wait to return!!

Excellent Choice

The ambience and quality of food were excellent. Only wished that we were there on a weekend to try their dinners. Dorothee and Thomas were excellent hosts. They send an email welcoming us with directions and a thank you for staying with them. This is not usually done by other B&B's where we have stayed - a very nice touch.

Lovely Inn, and fabulous Innkeepers

17 family members ( and 2 small dogs) stayed 3 nights. Innkeepers were MOST accomodating. Gardens, pool, etc. are lovely. Rooms are comfortable and large. Breakfast was delicious and included healthy options. Located 15 minutes to Chincoteaque island--lots to do and see. My family loved this experience. I think you will too.

A tuly outstanding inn

The Garden & Sea Inn is a truly outstanding accomodation. The inn itself & the grounds are wonderful & beautiful & the attention to detail by the inkeepers is most apparent & well done. The rooms & common areas are just beautiful & the inkeepers made us feel as if we were guests in their own home. We would definitely stay here again & we recommend it very highly--a truly unique & comfortable place--our dog agrees

Fabulous Stay

I could not find a romm in Salisbury for a bike ride, so ended up in New Church - 28 miles away. I cannot tell you enough how much I enjoyed the place. It is charming, romantic, clean, has a large room and comfortable bed, wonderful hosts and delicious food. Must try dinner there!! Got a basket of super food for breakfast to-go, my wife could not say enough about the breakfast served in the dining room at 9 a.m.

A beautiful place in a small town

This B&B is in a small-town outside of Chincoteague, Virginia. It is the only pet-friendly B&B in the area. The amenities, furnishings, food and property are all beautiful, and the hospitality is great!. Enjoy a relaxing time on this large property.

A true gem!

My husband, daughter & I just had the most wonderful stay at The Garden & Sea Inn, 4188 Nelson Rd P.O. Box 275 New Church, Virginia 23415, www.gardenandseainn.com. The innkeepers, Thomas & Doro are friendly & did everything possible to make us feel welcome, comfortable and well-cared for. They have renovated the buildings with tender, loving care. We stayed in the Chablis Suite, which was just beautiful, with the perfect set-up for us (bedroom) & our daughter (sleeper sofa, TV, refrigerator & coffee maker on the other side of the bathroom, which featured a spa bathtub). The breakfast was out of this world, way too much food, & they volunteered to pack up the baked goods for later in the day. When they noticed our daughter preferred the delicious sausage to anything else, they gave her a double helping the rest of our stay. when the weather turned rainy, they asked whether she liked puzzles, and left 3 in the room. The grounds are beautiful. What makes this place unique is that pets are also welcome, but everything is so well kept, that you would never know it was also pet-friendly. There are baskets for fresh & used beach towels for dogs on each building's porch; there are bags & a receptacle for dog waste. We brought our Brittany spaniel & had a great time. We took advantage of their Winter Special (tho it was April), & enjoyed 1 night free, 2 complimentary bottles of wine, coffee, biscotti, and a basket of dog treats in our suite; snacks & beverages were always well-supplied in the main building, near the fireplace. Stay here whether or not you have children and/or pets; you will feel totally pampered.

A Dog's Life

New Church on Virginia’s Eastern shore. We chose this inn because it is pet friendly and we wanted to take our Newfoundland dog to the beach. Located on the property are two of the oldest homes in the county which, along with the grounds, create a very nice atmosphere that harkens back to the beginning of the 18th century. During the winter the rooms in the older house are not available, so we stayed in the modern Shiraz Suite which is very spacious and nicely appointed. The connected private dog area accessed through the bedroom is very convenient for pet owners. We really like German food and the Renn’s did not disappoint. Each morning a nice breakfast was delivered to our suite. All of the breakfast entrees were new to us and we loved them all. The restaurant at the inn is not open during the winter so went to several local eateries that are listed in the inn’s guide book. All of the food was good and reasonably priced. As you would imagine, the seafood in the area is particularly good. There is much to see in the area. Among the places we visited were Chincoteague Island and Cape Charles which is about an hour south. We found our stay very relaxing and would definitely return.

Garden and Sea great stay

Garden and Sea is a property with more than one building allowing for different atmospheres in which to stay. The common areas are inviting and have cookies and beverages available. They are good for reading, writing, hanging out at the end of the day or working on the computer on free wireless. The property is welcoming as are the innkepeers Dorothee and Thomas. The breakfasts are very good.If in the area it is worth a visit.

The Perfect Wedding Location!

Thomas and Doro Renn will forever be my heros! They hosted the perfect wedding for us - about 30 guests - in April and we are still being reminded how perfect the weekend was each time we speak with one of our relatives! The Renn's attended to every detail no matter how small such as ensuring everyone had a wonderful breakfast, even bringing a basket of food to the rooms of people who wanted to sleep in. They painstakingly planned a delicious dinner reception of crabcakes and stuffed chicken breasts that was so tasteful that our guests called the staff to the dining room to give them a standing ovation! The rooms was beautiful, clean and oh so comfortable! The parlors was homey and yet eloquent. The Renn's have definitely found their calling in hospitality. By the end of the weekend, they meant so much more to us than our innkeepers, they felt like family! You simply can't put a pricetag on that! This is the place you want to be at if you're planning a small wedding. In a word, amazing!

New favorite B&B on Eastern Shore!

This was our first visit to Chincoteague Island, and this inn now first on my list. The facilities are absolutely gorgeous, wonderful gardens and beautifully designed, comfortable interiors. The innkeepers are adorable, and very knowledgeable about the local area, particularly restaurants and beaches that are dog friendly. We took their dining and schedule recommendations, and both were excellent. Though some mornings we just wanted to stay in, read on the porch and enjoy the scenery. They have several common rooms stocked with complimentary port wine and snacks. Go to breakfast hungry, and be ready for a small nap afterwards - the meals were delicious, though a little heavy, and I found it hard to stop eating. The house is about 30 min from Chincoteague, and after seeing the accommodations available on the island (smaller rooms, located on busy streets, and more expensive), it was the perfect find. Highly recommended!

Just the ticket for our anniversary

My wife and I stayed the weekend at the Inn for our 22nd anniversary. It was my wife's first B&B experience. Thomas and Dorothee set the bar high for future B&B experiences to come. They paid special attention to our needs and were a delightful hosts. The accomodations were well kept, comfortable, and serene. We will go back again.

and your dog will love it too!

This is a lovely Victorian type inn just about 10-15 minutes away (a truly easy drive) from Chicoteague and Assateague Island. We found this on-line by searching for pet-friendly hotels/inns on line. We didn't end up bringing our dog, but he would have loved it - nice fenced in area to play while we enjoyed the pool, nice green, grassy area to play fetch at the back of the property, a good residential-type block to walk him. If you don't like pets, don't hesitate to stay here -- it is a perfectly nice place with inviting guest rooms, pretty common areas, wonderful breakfasts, and friendly inkeeper couple.

The best B&B near Chincoteague and

Only 20 minutes from Assateague Beach. Better than staying in town on Chincoteague where traffic is noisy and rooms are small. Rooms are large, Breakfast is European in flavor, and swimming pool is nice. It is pet-friendly.

The Garden & Sea Inn: Top-Notch

As usual, my sister and I had a very pleasurable time staying at this most comfortable bed and breakfast. We relaxed by swimming at the refreshing pool and truly enjoyed the European breakfasts the innkeepers provided, not to mention the fine camaraderie we shared with them. The accommodations were excellent as the bathroom was always clean; the bedding always made perfectly. We appreciate the Renns' friendship and hospitality and would like to return again next summer, perhaps with a canine addition.

Hurricane Irene and the Inn

We went to the Garden and Sea Inn, located on the Eastern Shore in Virginia, near Chincoteague. Everyone was leaving and we were still going to go to the beach. It rained alot, more than we expected, but the Innkeepers, Dorothee and Thomas, made our stay very good. They provided dinner, when there was no place to go and had a generator to give us some power, when we lost power for a few hours. Though the weather didn't hold up, the Inn was a great place to go and just relax. That's exactly what we did.

Great Inn, Great Experience!

My husband and I stayed at the Inn over Columbus weekend. We were completely impressed with our room (Champagne) and the staff. Doro and Thomas were great! They offered us advice on local attractions and were more than welcoming. The breakfasts were exceptional. We were treated to several German dishes as well as fresh fruit, yogurt, breads and cereals every morning. I had read great reviews but was still skeptical. I didn't believe a B&B could actually receive such a high rating from so many visitors but, after staying there for four days I didn't want to leave. Five stars seems insufficient for such an outstanding experience! We will definitely be back! P.S. The Inn was a quick 15 minute drive to Chincoteague and all the touristy things. It is in a perfect location to avoid more expensive waterfront lodging while still being close enough to partake in all the activities. Excellent location!

A great choice

We spent a beautiful Fall weekend at the Garden & Sea B&B Inn and enjoyed every moment. The owners are lovely - very welcoming and service oriented. We came with two small children and we know that not every B&B accept that - here we felt very comfortable. A lot of thought was given to the small details and it definitely makes you feel that someone wants you to enjoy your stay to the max. The breakfast was delicious! Although the place is located in a residential area, it was very easy and quick to get from there to the nearby Assateague attractions. A great place we would love to come back to!

Very Romantic

My Husband & I visited the inn for our 1st anniversary. It was beautiful. We had the anniversary package with the roses, champagne & chocolate. The jacuzzi tub was delightful. Thomas and Dorothy were fabulous hosts and the eggs benedict on Sundays is to die for.

Great Romantic Getaway

My husband and I had a great time - the innkeepers were really hospitable, the breakfast was amazing (fresh fruit, homemade yogurt, homemade bread and THEN a main course - we never had lunch after eating all that!), and the room was really charming. Great place for a romantic getaway!

A Good Time for All

We wanted a weekend getaway that included our cardigan welsh corgi. We all had a great time. We loved the front porch swing and Lily loved the green space to play ball and chase the bunny rabbits. The breakfasts were delicious and just the right size. The room was large enough to accommodate Lily's crate without it being in the way. Dorothee and Thomas recommended some great restaurants in the area. We even took Lily to a dog friendly beach. We left relaxed and happy. And best yet when we called because we left something in the room, it was sent off to us right away. J&L from Washington DC

Fantastic Stay in the garden

We thoroughly enjoyed our three days and nights at The Garden and the Sea Inn. We brought our dog along since she is such a good traveling companion. Dorothee and Thomas (Innkeepers) treated all us us wonderfully. The flowers in the gardens were gorgeous, breakfast each morning was relaxing and DELICIOUS, the beds were just a s firm as we like them. The innkeepers were very helpful in directing us to the best-suited activities in the area that weekend. We didn't want to leave. We look forward to another relaxing visit before long. Many thanks for all the hospitality.

Loved it

The innkeepers were the best. Made you feel special, welcome and very comfortable. They knew so much history of their surroundings and where to eat and not to eat. What was good or bad? The treatment that we and our dog received was extraordinary. From the dog treats to the human treats to special dishes, towels, breakfasts, ambiance, kindness. This was a place where the saying "give and ye shall receive" really applied. I was so touched by these people that I would go back in an instant. Unfortunately, can't right now.

There's no Place Like Home

My partner Richard and I choose the Garden and the Sea during a quick trip from Atlanta to visit my family who lives on the Eastern Shore. I was thrilled to find this treasure in New Church only minutes from my family's home in Parksley. We were thrilled from the moment we arrived. The accomodations were clean, well appointed and charming. We stayed in the Lighthouse room in the Garden House; I started and ended each day on the enclosed balcony just taking in the peace and quiet of the surroundings. The double sink bathroom enhanced our visit by making it possible to each of us to have our areas as neat and/or as messy as we wanted :). Dorothy and Thomas are cut from the perfect Innkeepers mold. They get hospitality and customer service. After only minutes we felt as though we had been old friends who had not seen each other in awhile. The breakfast and evening snacks along with many thoughtful touches throughout our stay made for a wonderful visit home. We had three family visitors who were equally as thrilled by the G&S and plan to recommend them whenever the occasion arises. Dorothy and Thomas, we wish you continued success because we plan to be repeat guests whenever we travel to Virginia. Thank you for your loving spirits and hospitality. P.S. If you are looking for a romantic getaway, you have to see the Chardonnay room-I wanted to take that bathroom, dismantle it and bring it back to Atlanta. Tschüss Thomas and Dorothy-until the next time. Michelle and Richard

Seventh Year at This Inn

Why change when you find the perfect place? From the exquisite rooms to the sumptious breakfasts to the off-the-beaten-track location, this is my perfect "happy place!" I've been bringing my Shetland Sheepdog Layla here since she was a puppy, and every time we have a perfect rest from the hectic school year. Other times, my family joins me, and that can include four dogs! Hosts Thomas and Dorothee treat you like family should: gracious, warm and welcoming. Come fall in love with the best B&B I know!

InnSide Tip - Which Building
The large Victorian house is great -- and close to breakfast. I just love all the rooms. The Garden House is deliciously private and close to the goodies for afternoon tea or snacks. The yellow house has a very private upstairs room and a lovely ground floor room with a fenced in yard. My favorite? The Nelson Room in the main house!!

Perfect B&B for R&R

Garden and Sea provided the perfect setting for our R&R. This serene New Church establishment offers indoor and outdoor serenity that you cannot find at all B&B accommodations. The host and hostess were congenial, but inconspicuous unless needed for advice. Thomas was the ideal host and man can that Dorothee cook!!

Perfect Getaway

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Garden and the Sea Inn for a week when we visited Assateague Beach and it was the perfect choice. It's very clean, gorgeous landscape, and very quiet. The innkeepers are very friendly and knowledgeable of the area. It's just a short drive to Chincoteague/Assateague but it is out of the hustle-and-bustle of the main tourist attraction so you have plenty of time to relax and enjoy peace and quiet. The property is very roomy and the rooms are beautifully decorated and full of character. We stayed in the Chardonnay room and loved it! The bed is huge and extremely comfortable and the bathroom is fit for a king. I would recommend this place to absolutely everyone. I don't have a single complaint and will definitely revisit this inn if I visit the area again!

Our Favorite Innkeepers

My sister and I offer a hearty thanks for the hospitality that Doro and Thomas Renn of the Garden and Sea Inn provided. This marks our 5th year that we've come to this B&B. We love the ambiance of the Chardonnay room (same room for all the times we've come down), the scrumptious breakfasts in the dining room and the relaxation at the pool. Although our trip was short, it, nevertheless was thoroughly enjoyable. We hope to visit Doro and Thomas again next year.

Quiet and Romantic Weekend Getaway

This was our first visit to a B&B and we couldn't have picked a better one. The owners are very nice, and their place is very beautiful and set up for the ultimate feeling of privacy and getting away from it all. Also they are pet friendly, and that was a huge plus for us, as we have had difficulty finding places that allow people traveling with their dog.

Our favorite local beach getaway

We love staying in the Garden House of Garden and the Sea. It is Victorian and furnished with lovely antiques. Every room is unique. The breakfasts are creative and delicious. New Church is only 20 mintues from Assategue Beach, and it allows you the peace and quiet you do not get staying in Chincoteague.

Very Very Pretty

The moment we first walked into the house, the first thing that immediately caught our attention was how gorgeous the house is. The very sweet and friendly owners, Thomas and Dorothee, really have great taste. You can't go wrong with any room. They also made us delicious pancakes with homemade blueberry syrup and gave us some great insider info on what to do in the area. This place is truly special. For anyone who is looking to spend a relaxing vacation in a beautiful location, this is the place for you.

Thanksgiving Weekend Getaway

We like to visit a different B&B every Thanksgiving weekend. But this one - Garden and Sea - is the best and we'll be back. We stayed in the Shiraz Suite, which is spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated, with a fenced yard for our dog. The innkeepers, Dorothee and Thomas, are friendly and gracious.

Enjoyable stay!

I was looking for a relaxing place to stay in the off-season with my dog, and I found it here. The bathtub & screened porch near the beach were the selling points, as was the promise of a hearty breakfast. The charm, though, is really in the details. The guesthouse has everything you need and plenty of things you might forget, like umbrellas, dog dishes, treats & towels, plus a kitchen area with homemade cookies. There is a comfy sitting room where you can enjoy a read from the library by the fire, or use the computer. The private rooms actually feel more like a hotel. Mine was clean, with high-quality mattress, blankets & pillows, which I loved! The bath had everything from fluffy robes & bath salts to a face towel specifically for makeup. The buildings are old, but the owners have done a nice job updating the place and making it comfortable and have thought of everything you might need so you feel like you are staying in a friends’ guesthouse. They are also "green" conscious, which I really appreciated. Dorothee recommended a local eating hole located on some remote fishing docks that relies on local food sources and makes everything fresh, which was delicious and within my budget. She was also kind enough to bring me a tray of breakfast food one evening so I could sleep in the following day and still have breakfast without having to drive somewhere. Some people might care that there is nothing in New Church to do, but I was glad it was quiet there so I could sit outside and read. I actually brought groceries so I didn't have to leave the property for every meal, since there is nothing within walking distance. Also there are not 100 cable channels on TV, but I this was not an issue for me. I ate well, slept well, enjoyed the quiet location and friendly staff- as did my dog! I only wish I had known they supplied so many extras (computer, dog towels etc.) so I wouldn’t have packed so much :) You get your money's worth at this enjoyable inn, so I definitely recommend the place!

My girlfriend and I stayed there because it was reviewed so highly online by everyone else. We certainly were not disappointed. Everything was very clean, the food was great, and they made sure to provide plenty of complimentary snacks and sodas. The people are very friendly and interesting. It was everything we expected.

Amazng getaway

We had an opportunity recently to stay at the Garden and Sea Inn for three nights. After reading the reviews our only concern was how could it live up to our now impossibly high expectations. Well, I don't know how they could have done it, but Thomas and Doro managed to exceed them. The experience at Garden and Sea begins and ends with the world's best hosts. Thomas and Dorothee are energetic, helpful, friendly, welcoming, charming...truly salt-of-the-earth. They are both that rare type of person who, after talking with them for only a few minutes, makes you feel like you have been best friends for years. When we arrived we were given a lovely tour of the property and buildings, along with a history of the inn. The grounds are beautiful, with little gardens and walkways all around, quiet places to sit and read, small ponds with frogs and fish, even a mediation garden with an inviting swing. The Garden House has a welcoming parlor where you can sit and drink coffee and tea, accompanied by Doro's homemade cookies, which are generously restocked throughout the day. If you are there when we are, please be sure to leave me one of the chocolate chip cookies - they are amazing! The guestrooms are well appointed with great decorating touches throughout. Our bed was oh-so-comfortable - I haven't slept so soundly in a long time. We were comfortable and relaxed the entire time. Dorothee is an amazing cook (the plates had barely been cleared when we started wondering what she would be making for us the next day). Each breakfast was not only great-tasting, but so very well presented as well. Thomas is a wonderful host who kept us entertained with stories and recommendation for sightseeing and dining. Our time at the inn ended far too quickly, and we are already planning our next visit - partly for the chance to explore the eastern shore again, but mostly to catch-up with our new friends Thomas and Dorothee.

Sold My Boyfriend on B & Bs

My boyfriend, who has never had a desire to stay at a B & B & conceded to make me happy, is sold--he says he will NEVER stay in a hotel again unless there is absolutely no alternative. The Chardonnay Room’s pictures & description do not do it justice—we grinned for our entire stay. There were also 2 minor but splendid perks to the room (which was more like a suite for as roomy as it was) that I also haven't seen mentioned. First, the bathroom skylights let us see stars at night & beautiful view of blue skies & green leaves during the day. Second, the bathtub (more than big enough for the 2 of us) had the little perk that its fixtures were to the side, & not in the center. You can use your imagination here, but having them out of the way can be great if you’re feeling romantic & in a hurry to get out of the tub. As for the property & the buildings, the inn itself was incredibly charming. There were 3 buildings on the property. The grounds, buildings, decorations, amenities (including complimentary port wine!) were all wonderful. We found the swing near the reflecting pond to be very cozy & romantic, too. The innkeepers themselves sealed the deal. We were welcomed most warmly, & our orientation to the grounds, though not time consuming, was very informative & appreciated. Breakfast itself was actually a FUN & scrumptious affair. The spread was wonderful (yum, homemade yogurt!) & Dorothee's cooking skills were fantastic, as was the presentation of our food. While we dined, Thomas was available to chat--he's both hilarious & full of excellent information about the area. Likewise, diners who appeared to want privacy were provided superb service but left to chat between themselves. All in all, neither my boyfriend nor I have a single complaint about our stay. He said he can't wait to stay at another bed & breakfast & that he absolutely wants to come back to the Garden & the Sea Inn!

Amazing!

Never having stayed at a Bed and Breakfast before, I wasn't sure what to expect. The room my wife and I selected was very cozy with a spacious bed. The room was clean and actually cleaned daily by maids. They didn't just come in and empty the trash, they vacuumed and mopped daily. For breakfast I was expecting eggs and bacon or pancakes almost every day. I was pleasantly surprised that our hostess actually made different meals every morning. They had a table set up with the usual fruit, coffee, and such, but each morning we had a newly cooked meal that looked as if a professional chef had made it specially for us. My wife and I did decide to leave a day early but that had nothing to do with our stay. We would not hesitate to go back, and hope to have time to return this fall.

An Enchanting Inn

We recently took a trip to the Eastern Shore and had the pleasure to stay at the Garden and Sea Inn. It was one of our best decisions ever. Dorothee & Thomas Renn are one of the best Innkeepers we have ever met. Their hospitality goes beyond the norm, they make you feel not only at home but part of their family. Dorothee is an excellent cook and Thomas a great story teller. If you want to know anything about the area, Thomas is the person you wan to talk to! I recommend everyone that goes to the area to stop by and meet the Renn, you'll be happy you did! No matter if you have a small child, pet or teenagers, they welcome everyone!

So Heavenly, Hated to leave!

Most wonderful dedicated employees and owners. Breakfast was wonderful and unique. Rooms were beautiful as well as a giant glorious bathroom. Bed was very comfortable. Best place I have ever stayed. Can't wait to get to go back. Hated leaving, broke our hearts.

Relaxing Vacation!

The B&B was so quaint and really magnificent. As far as B&Bs go, it was definitely my favorite I've ever stayed at. They provided bottled water, soda, chips, cookies, and snacks for free. And when they say "Pet friendly" they REALLY MEAN IT - they had dog biscuits and towels, and an outdoor kennel, etc. Hmmm... what else... oh the BEST PART... they made my breakfast Gluten Free (as I have Celiac Disease) every morning, I had gluten free quiche, gf carrot & coconut pancakes, and gf eggs benedict and they were all AMAZING. Seriously, so delicious. It is rare to find a B&B with a pool and that was a high attraction for us. We loved the low-key, quiet, environment and often time had the pool all to ourselves! A private oasis! We will definitely be back! I highly recommend it!!

Everything a B&B Should Be

The Garden & Sea Inn is everything a B&B should be. My mother and I stayed in the Attic Room, which is actually two rooms across the hall from each other. We had the top floor entirely to ourselves which allowed for optimum privacy, and the two-room set-up (bedroom on one side, bathroom & coffee/sitting area on the other) kept us from waking each other up if one of us got up earlier than the other. We were in town for the pony swim, and all of our activities required us leaving before the included breakfast started. But Dorothee and Thomas were very accommodating, leaving a bag lunch in the fridge for the day of the swim to Chincoteague and a continental breakfast in our room for the day of the swim back to Assateague. Refreshments (chips, granola bars, apples, cookies, water, soda, etc.) were always available in the Garden House Parlor to grab on the go. I also got to taste sherry for the first time! Most amazing, perhaps, was the fact we didn't actually meet Dorothee until the afternoon of our second stay, but absolutely all of our needs were still met without a hitch. We found our room easily and felt welcome to explore the grounds. Instructions and directions were written clearly in the room binder and in the very welcoming note left for us at the front door, as we arrived after the usual check-in time. The housekeepers were also great. We left for our activities in the morning and by the time we returned to the room in the afternoon, our coffee was replenished, beds were made, trash was gone, and rooms were neatened. This may very well be the most inviting, picturesque, and welcoming place I've had the pleasure of experiencing.

Excellent service, great breakfasts

Great service, and charming facilities. The breakfast food and evening cookies/sweets were excellent. The room was large, bed comfy, and bath oversized. The hosts and staff were the friendliest around. The town doesn't have anything, but is within 30 minutes to an hour north or south of beaches, historic towns & harbors, and great restaurants. The eastern shore area of VA and MD are a great place to unwind and get away from the rat-race.

Cleanest Bed and Breakfast!

I have stayed in 4 star hotels have and have never been satisfied with the cleanliness of the a room. This bed and breakfast was spotless! We stayed in the Cabernet Suite with our two dogs and had a very relaxing time. If you are traveling with pets, this bed and breakfast should be at the top of your list! They provide treats, towels, blankets, bowls, etc for your pets and there are a lot of pet friendly activities in the area so your dogs can vacation too! Our favorite was the sunset boat tour that our dog was able to join us on. The owner and staff are extremely helpful and friendly and the food was great!

Enjoyed our stay very much. The beach is not too far....great place for your traveling dog. Owner is lovely gal, very helpful. Pool was great. Towels-sheets in great condition. They also have special towels for your dogs and special blankets for your pooch! Lots of space to roam with dog on property. A great restaurant about 11 miles called Crusty Crab, we went twice...(good seafood) VERY rustic.

Gorgeous rooms, Fabulous Food!

We arrived late, but they knew we were coming and left us what we needed to get into our room. I was impressed with how carefully decorated the Chardonnay room was. Lovely Victorian style pieces, a gorgeous chandelier that hung over the bed and a large bathroom with skylights, what seemed to be an oversized King Bed in the center of the sleeping area, a perfect room for a romantic weekend away. I felt so pampered! Breakfasts were delicious! From homemade yogurt to fresh squeezed juices and the consideration of my gluten free needs. I was delighted with an omelet one day, gluten free french toast the next! Even the Eggs Benedict on our final day there was prepared so I could enjoy it. (Be sure to let them know dietary needs ahead of time, they are able to accomodate just about every need as long as they know when you book or soon after!) It felt so elegant sitting in the dining area waiting to see what was being cooked up for that day. We got to see inside two of the properties. The main house where we stayed and dined as well as the Garden house where there are snacks and a table to eat or play games at. Also a library, some dvds and a sitting area. Our room was the perfect end to days exploring Chincoteague and Asseuteague Islands. The bed was perfect! I slept so well. I want to go back!

Beautiful, attentive getaway spot!

We stayed four nights at the Garden and Sea Inn just last week and it exceeded our highest hopes in every way. Such attention to detail everywhere you looked from cookies, port wine, snacks, and delicious mint-infused iced tea available around the clock, to towels in all the right places, well designed rooms...and INCREDIBLE breakfasts full of variety and delectable ingredients assembled by gourmet chef Dorothy! We also received personally adjusted recommendations for day trips from Dorothy and Robin that suited our interests and style. The Garden and Sea Inn provided everything we hoped for: it was quiet and super peaceful, very clean, comfortable in every way...we felt very appreciated and well taken care of yet still had all of the privacy that we wanted. An outstanding harmonic balance was achieved during the entire stay. We will certainly be back in the future and recommend to anyone passing through the beautiful Eastern Shore! Thank you Dorothy and Robin for making everything so wonderful and pleasant. You're both very warm people and outstanding hosts. J.R.

A comfortable and quiet getaway

We stayed June 18 and 19th. Dorothy and the staff were so kind, warm and helpful. The Garden and the Sea B & B is close to the beach but also far enough away that you are not in all the tourist trap of the beach area. The grounds are lovely to walk in, the pool was great for a dip and we stayed in the Champagne room which was very spacious. Also, we had wonderful breakfasts each day!

A Very Nice Inn

We pretty much loved everything about the room and the overall accommodations, however, the shower head in the Chantilly room was pathetic. It was the worst shower head we have ever encountered. The water just rolled out. We mentioned it to the owner the first morning (we stayed 2 nights) but nothing was done because maintenance was not available. We suffered through morning and evening showers. Also, what's up with the cheap toilet paper? I've seen better in a rest stop. C'mon...buy some 2-ply good stuff! The WiFi was just as terrible. Breakfast was awesome, as was everything else about the place!

8th Year (and counting) at The Gard

My sister, my dog and I spent 4 days and 3 nights at the Garden and Sea Inn a couple weeks ago. Our stay was very relaxing and enjoyable. The breakfasts were nourishing and delicious. We swam in the refreshing pool and were able to bring back snacks and water in the parlor room of another house to our room. We always ask for the Chardonnay Room in our particular house because of the space, comfort and easy access. Dorothee, the innkeeper, provided us with fresh towels everyday. In addition, she was most helpful in recommending the Ayers Creek Adventures for kayaking in Berlin, MD and the Charlotte Hotel for dinner in Onancock, VA. Both were fabulous. My kudos to Dorothee and her pleasant and accommodating staff. See you again next year!

Great Anniversary Spot

My wife and I honeymooned and recently celebrated our second anniversary at the Garden and Sea Inn. The innkeeper, Dorothee, is a great cook and provides personal recommendations for dining and local attractions. Our room was spotless and very comfortable, with a hot tub, king size bed, luxurious bathrobes, and other nice amenities. Breakfast was hearty and delicious both times we visited. There is an outdoor pool (which we haven't used, since we have visited in September). The innkeeper also provides free cookies, fruit, and port wine in one of the common areas. The grounds are spacious and are one street off the main road. Overall, a very quiet and relaxing place to stay, close to Chincoteague while still on the mainland. We plan to make the Garden and Sea Inn a regular getaway. Highly recommended!

A Must Stay Place

This Inn was so comfortable for my husband me. The King bed in the Champagne room was wonderful and I liked all the extras like a refrigerator and cookies in the main kitchen. We also had a refrigerator in our room. Our bedroom was very large as was the bathroom with it's jacuzzi tub. We definitely liked Dorothee's breakfasts. First day we had a semolina wheat cake with cherries and the second day was Eggs Benedict with asparagus and salmon. You definitely want to stay at the Garden and Sea Inn.

A rare excellence and elegance

The Garden and the Sea B&B Inn is an exceptional delight. Tastefully decorated and quite elegant in style. The grounds are very neat and appealing with beautiful flowers. Attention to detail and care no mere theory here - it shows throughout. Dorothee Renn and her staff are to be highly commended and recognized. Garden and the Sea B&B Inn was quite possibly, the best secret on Virginia's Eastern Shore. But no more, I have been telling everyone about the place. Won't stay anywhere else when I travel to Wallops. Traveled alone but would definitely bring my wife there. Told a co-worker and showed a few pictures I took, he is taking his wife there. The food is exquisite!

“Hospitality with Grace and Charm”

My wife, dog and I had a wonderful 4-night stay over Thanksgiving and the weekend following. What a special, delightful visit in this charming, quaint B&B that exudes the owners personality and attention to her guests' every need and interest. Dorothee and Robin, her assistant, were the perfect hostesses. Two of the most pleasant and accommodating people you'll ever meet. And they eagerly share their wealth of knowledge on the best places to eat, play, shop, etc., based on their guests' interests, tastes and whims. Our room in the Garden House was delightful. Simple, tasteful and sparkling clean with all the necessary amenities. And the parlor was pleasantly stocked with complimentary refreshments of all kinds. And they treated our golden retriever/yellow lab mix just like any other guest: with her own treats, bowl, blanket and a five-acre, beautifully maintained yard to play in. The breakfasts Dorothee prepared were fantastic. Unique and delicious. And beautifully presented and served in a bright, airy, comfortable dining room, with full table service and linen cloths and napkins. Absolutely the most delightful lodging experience we've ever had. And we've traveled all over the U.S. and Central Europe.

A real gem!

Garden and Sea Inn is a real gem. The main building has a wonderful old architecture, and the whole complex sits in a garden that looked charming even in early March. Dorothee and Thomas are fantastically attentive hosts and great cooks. The room décor, the fireplace, the little bottle of Port in the living room, the large whirlpool bathtub, and the five-star gourmet breakfasts all made our stay feel very festive. The B&B is within a short drive from Chincoteague, which some may consider as a disadvantage but was actually a real plus for us. We came to visit the Wildlife Refuge and Chincoteague the town felt way too commercialized for our taste. Getting away from it to a charming little oasis was absolutely fantastic. If I am ever in the area again I will definitely go back to Dorothee and Thomas.

InnSide Tip - The location is an advantage
It is better to stay away from Chincoteague the town, it is too commercialized and noisy. The drive to the wildlife refuge from the Garden and the Sea Inn is actually pretty short and pleasant and you pass through Chincoteague fairly quickly to get to the place where you really want to be

A romantic wedding-anniversary escape!

Escaping to the Eastern Shore to celebrate our wedding anniversary, my wife and I enjoyed very much our two-night stay at Garden and Sea Inn, and appreciate greatly Thomas and Dorothee's hospitality. We were initially booked for one night and extended to stay another because it was so pleasant. The breakfasts that we enjoyed both mornings were fabulous, so much better prepared than one normally gets within our experience at a B&B. Dorothee is quite the chef! We took pleasure each evening in dropping by the drawing room where we could enjoy a snack and a glass of port wine. All the comforts of home!

Wonderful Weekend Getaway

I needed to get away to a little peace and quiet. Garden and the Sea is perfect - it feels very secluded, but is close to all the local attractions. My room was lovely and the breakfast was delicious. Great amenities! The pool was refreshing after a hot day of outdoor exploring. And I really appreciated the after dinner port. ;)

Warm and Cozy

My recent stay at "Garden and The Sea" Bed and Breakfast was all I'd hoped for. The B&B is close to many local activities and eateries. Important for me is the coziness and warmth of the B&B. My room, and I think all rooms, had a fireplace as one of the sources of heat. Another source of warmth came from the B&B folks which helped make the B&B cozy, they were so pleasant and fun to talk with. And of course, the first "B" stands for breakfast. The breakfasts were fantastic tasting and filling. Bottom line, I plan to stay at Garden and The Sea again in about a year.
