About Our Rooms
The Victoria & Albert
You’ll feel like royalty when you stay in the Victoria & Albert Room at The Gables Inn in Beach Haven, NJ. Named for a 19th century royal couple whose engineered marriage turned into an enduring love match, this welcoming room has many charming features that date back to the Victorian era — one that lasted from 1819, when the 18-year-old princess ascended the British throne — until 1901, when the revered monarch passed away. Fate decreed that she would mourn Prince Albert, who died at an early age from typhoid (the royal drains at Windsor left much to be desired in those days) for 40 years, but not before they had produced nine sons and daughters. This period room, with its high ceiling and the original wide plank floors, is tastefully decorated with carefully selected antiques and a needlepoint rug. The working fireplace with carved marble mantel, and a comfortable queen-sized bed complete with canopy and a regal Ralph Lauren tapestry bedcover, create a sense of warmth and ease. If you are planning to celebrate a special occasion in New Jersey, like a birthday or wedding anniversary, consider hosting your event at The Gables. Then surprise the guest(s) of honor with a night or weekend in the Victoria and Albert Room. Additional comforts include a marble bathroom with whirlpool tub, The Gables’ terry-lined brocade bathrobes, and French toiletries from Provence. Of course, modern amenities such as a flat screen TV with integrated DVD/CD player, WIFI, secure high speed cable/modem connection and clock radio have not been forgotten. A complimentary gourmet breakfast completes the whole delightful experience.
The Barrett Browning
Do you want to sweep your loved one off his or her feet? Then book the Barrett Browning Room at The Gables Inn in Beach Haven, NJ for a romantic weekend for two. Named for the most romantic couple of the Victorian era, Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning, this charming room pays homage to the memory of their courtship — kept hidden from her tyrannical father — and their secret marriage and flight to Florence, where they spent 15 idyllic years. Elizabeth’s best-known poem, the sonnet that starts “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways” has resonated with lovers to this day and sets the perfect mood for your romantic New Jersey getaway. This period room, from the stately height of the ceiling to the original wide plank floors, bids you a warm welcome. A working fireplace is framed by a carved marble mantel, and carefully selected antiques, needlepoint rug, and a comfortable queen-sized bed create a sense of ease.
