About Our Rooms

The Victoria & Albert

The Victoria & AlbertYou’ll feel like royalty when you stay in the Victoria & Albert Room at The Gables Inn in Beach Haven, NJ. Named for a 19th century royal couple whose engineered marriage turned into an enduring love match, this welcoming room has many charming features that date back to the Victorian era — one that lasted from 1819, when the 18-year-old princess ascended the British throne — until 1901, when the revered monarch passed away. Fate decreed that she would mourn Prince Albert, who died at an early age from typhoid (the royal drains at Windsor left much to be desired in those days) for 40 years, but not before they had produced nine sons and daughters. This period room, with its high ceiling and the original wide plank floors, is tastefully decorated with carefully selected antiques and a needlepoint rug. The working fireplace with carved marble mantel, and a comfortable queen-sized bed complete with canopy and a regal Ralph Lauren tapestry bedcover, create a sense of warmth and ease. If you are planning to celebrate a special occasion in New Jersey, like a birthday or wedding anniversary, consider hosting your event at The Gables. Then surprise the guest(s) of honor with a night or weekend in the Victoria and Albert Room. Additional comforts include a marble bathroom with whirlpool tub, The Gables’ terry-lined brocade bathrobes, and French toiletries from Provence. Of course, modern amenities such as a flat screen TV with integrated DVD/CD player, WIFI, secure high speed cable/modem connection and clock radio have not been forgotten. A complimentary gourmet breakfast completes the whole delightful experience.

The Barrett Browning

The Barrett BrowningDo you want to sweep your loved one off his or her feet? Then book the Barrett Browning Room at The Gables Inn in Beach Haven, NJ for a romantic weekend for two. Named for the most romantic couple of the Victorian era, Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning, this charming room pays homage to the memory of their courtship — kept hidden from her tyrannical father — and their secret marriage and flight to Florence, where they spent 15 idyllic years. Elizabeth’s best-known poem, the sonnet that starts “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways” has resonated with lovers to this day and sets the perfect mood for your romantic New Jersey getaway. This period room, from the stately height of the ceiling to the original wide plank floors, bids you a warm welcome. A working fireplace is framed by a carved marble mantel, and carefully selected antiques, needlepoint rug, and a comfortable queen-sized bed create a sense of ease.

The Chapel

The ChapelAre you in need of a relaxing getaway from the everyday stress and cares of the modern world? Step into this beautifully furnished period room at The Gables Inn in Beach Haven, NJ, and you are transported to another, more gracious era. The cathedral ceiling, a working fireplace with an extravagantly high carved marble mantel, original wide plank floors and a view across the street of one of the oldest churches on the island, combine to create a welcoming, old-world ambience. The English country house chintz in shades of sunny yellow complements carefully selected antiques, a needlepoint rug, and a comfortable queen-sized bed. The Gables is a meticulously restored historic Victorian bed and breakfast located on Long Beach Island, perfectly situated for your New Jersey Shore vacation or private weekend retreat.

The Bailey Lloyd

The Bailey LloydTake a trip back in time during your stay in the Bailey Lloyd Room at The Gables Inn in Beach Haven, NJ. Dedicated to Long Beach Island resident historians John and Jeanette Bailey Lloyd, whose tireless conservation efforts and evocative writings preserve two centuries of island history for posterity, this charming room is a tribute to their invaluable work. (Look for John Bailey Lloyd’s books in our private library/sitting room, which is reserved for the use of Inn guests, and in local bookstores.) Located in the eaves of The Gables, with sloping walls and a cozy ambience, the room is beautifully decorated in soft red and cream toile. Carefully selected antiques, a needlepoint rug on the original wide plank floor, a free-standing iron stove and a comfortable queen-sized bed draped with toile hangings create a sense of ease. A Victorian style claw-foot tub with bubble jet massage right in the room invites a relaxing bubble bath. The Bailey Lloyd Room provides the perfect setting for a romantic New Jersey getaway for two or a quiet, and much-deserved, hideaway just for you! Additional comforts include a marble half bath with sink and toilet, The Gables’ terry-lined brocade bathrobes, and French toiletries from Provence. Of course, modern amenities such as a flat screen TV with integrated DVD/CD player, WIFI, secure high speed cable/modem connection and clock radio have not been forgotten. A complimentary gourmet breakfast completes the whole delightful experience.

The Provence

The ProvenceStep into this charming room tucked under the eaves of The Gables Inn in Beach Haven, NJ, and you are transported to the romantic south of France, where ancient olive trees flourish, vineyards stretch for miles, and sunny hillsides are redolent with the scent of wild herbs. The walls and sloped ceiling have coordinated wallpaper designs based on typical Provençal fabric designs, and a free-standing iron stove evokes a welcoming atmosphere. Carefully selected antiques, a needlepoint rug on the original wide plank floor, and a comfortable queen-sized bed create a sense of ease. Additional comforts include a marble bathroom, where you will find The Gables’ terry-lined brocade bathrobes and imported toiletries from Provence. Of course, modern amenities such as a flat screen TV with integrated DVD/CD player, WIFI, secure high speed cable/modem connection and clock radio have not been forgotten. A complimentary gourmet breakfast completes the whole delightful experience.

You are transported the minute you walk into this Victorian landmark, which is even more gorgeous since being authentically restored after an Easter Sunday fire. The lovely landscaping and architectural touches invite you into a genteel gem that envelops you with its elegant but warm charm and ambiance. Each guest room has marble fireplaces, fine period linens and bedding but also features modern amenities like jacuzzis and flatscreen TVs. The Zagat-rated restaurant never disappoints, with its tremendous cuisine, piano music and attentive service. I can't wait to return.
