The Claremont is located on one of the prettiest little points in Maine. It is full of charm, antiques, comfortable beds and new-ish bathrooms. The staff is really nice. There are so many fun things to do on Mt Dessert even if you don't sail (which I don't) and the Claremont knows them all. They have a lovely tennis court and the BEST place on the island for lunch...called the Boat House, a converted old Boat House right on the water and the sound...great sandwiches and cookies. Good for pm cocktails too.

Circa 1884. Adorning six acres of shorefront overlooking Somes Sound on Mount Desert Island since 1884, this grand hotel is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
