Description

Circa 1814. Set on 19 wooded and landscaped acres overlooking the Mississippi River, the Briars is most noted for having been the family home of Varina Howell where she married Jefferson Davis in 1845. One can only imagine the romance evoked from the simple ceremony in the parlor in front of the carved wood Adam-style mantel. Everything about this elegant and sophisticated Southern Planter-style home brings to life glorious traditions of the Old South, from the 48-foot drawing room with its twin staircases, five Palladian arches and gallery to the lush gardens with more than 1,000 azaleas and camellias. A gourmet breakfast is served each morning.
