About Our Rooms

Patterson Room

The Patterson Room is located on our second floor. It is named after Patterson Park and William Patterson, of course. One of William’s beautiful daughters, Elizabeth “Betsy”, was for a short time married to Jerome Bonaparte, brother of Napoleon. Please feel free to ask us for the rest of the story. The Patterson provides a king sized bed, a private outside deck, and deluxe bathroom. There are great views of our row house neighborhood from the deck. Maybe just a relaxing soak in the tub for a while is in order. Like all rooms at the Blue Door on Baltimore the Patterson has, a bath with both a separate claw-foot bathtub and shower, a large sitting area with writing desk, satellite television, Internet access, and cozy robes to curl up in. The Patterson also adjoins the Hampstead Room for those traveling together and wishing connecting rooms.

Rates: $139 - $175

Type of bed: King

Hampstead Room

The Hampstead Room is located on the Third floor at the rear of our facility. It’s namesake, Hampstead Hill, is the site where Patterson Park was later to be established and is the section of the park where it’s famous pagoda is located. Hampstead Hill was an instrumental part of the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812 which inspired Francis Scott Key to write the poem that later become our national anthem. See the Harbor just as he did from this room’s private balcony. The Hampstead provides a King Sized Bed, a private outside deck, and deluxe bathroom with separate soaking tub and shower. Take a seat on the deck, catch some fresh air, relax, and absorb our row house neighborhood views. Like all other rooms at the Blue Door on Baltimore the Hampstead has a large sitting area with writing desk, satellite television, wireless Internet access, and cozy robes to curl up in. The Hampstead does adjoin the Patterson Room for families or groups traveling together.

Rates: $139 - $175

Type of bed: King

Washburn Room

The Washburn Room is street-side on our second floor and is the Blue Door’s largest room. It faces Baltimore Street, separating Baltimore City into north and south as the unit block. The room name comes from the Civil War era of Patterson Park when the park became a large tent city and was used as a Union Army Rehabilitation Hospital. At that time Butcher’s Hill received its name. Many of the local residents were butchers who had shops and staging areas near the inner harbor and provided meats consumed by the Union Army. Indulge yourself in this restful and romantic room with its King Sized Bed, sitting area with writing desk, and very large bathroom. Soak in the tub for a while. Enjoy a good book from our library, just next door, by the light of the room’s three tall windows. Or, just get away from everything to relax and revitalize. The Washburn also has in-room satellite television, wireless Internet access, the private bath with separate soaking tub and shower, and cozy robes to curl up in. The Washburn can also accommodate a third traveler with its twin size fold out Ottoman.

Rates: $139 - $175

Roger and Cecilia know how to pamper guests--every detail from the fine linens to the chocolates to the yoga mat in our room were delightful surprises. My husband and I stayed there with our granddaughter and loved that we could walk a lovely three blocks to Patterson Park. We can't wait to go back.

Delightful stay

We were at Blue Door while in Baltimore for business. We couldn't have enjoyed it more. The innkeepers have thought of everything you could possibly need to be comfortable while away from home. The breakfasts were scruptous and made to order. The turn down treats, which we looked forward to each evening, included brownies, fudge, and chocolate chip cookies, all homemade. The room was huge and the furniture was so comfortable both for sitting and sleeping. The free internet and business center came in very handy when I needed to print a report for a meeting. We were traveling with collegues and loved it too. All 3 rooms are beautiful and spacious. We certainly hope we have another opportunity to stay at Blue Door again. Thanks Roger and Cecelia.

We cannot say enough about the Blue Door. The room was spacious, bed was extremely comfortable, and Roger is not only a fabulous chef, but a historian on Baltimore. The Blue Door is a dream in every way!

Best Breakfasts Ever!

What a great place to stay when in Baltimore!! The rooms are super comfortable with lots of extra touches. Nice Linens, robes, i-pod charger, balcony, water feature to absorb the downtown noise (which can be tuned off if you don't need it) and best of all -cookies and treats waiting for you in your room in the evenings. The best though, is Roger’s breakfasts! What a great surprise! I had read all the comments online and they were not exaggerating. He is a great chef/maid/host/handyman. Nothing to complain about here! -Really wonderful food, sincere hospitality, and very accommodating proprietors.

Amazing Vacation

I visited the location once before, and decided to stay for an anniversary trip this year. I was expecting it to be good, but I have to say it's one of the best places I've stayed in (and I've been to quite a lot). The rooms are large and spacious, with excellent amenities. The common amenities are also excellent, with books and games and movies you can take out, and some good tea available whenever you would like, as well as computers you can take and use as you want. And the innkeepers, especially Roger, who is around more often, are simply great. Roger cooks an excellent breakfast, and makes little deserts for you to come back to every night, like cookies and chocolates, all of which are delicious. He's very nice, and very accommodating. I got in later then expected, and Roger simply took care of the bill the following day, with no issue. He's full of useful advice and generally a great guy. Overall, absolutely amazing stay. Will definitely be back again.

Best B&B I've Stayed At!

This B&B really has something special. It doesn't feel like staying in a relative's house cluttered with outdated decorations/furniture like some B&Bs. It has real charm and offer something MORE. Compared to other B&Bs I stayed in this has nicer decorations, better art (lots of great art on the walls here), more charm, nicer breakfasts, nicer china, nicer linens & bedding, nicer everything. The homemade turndown treats were fabulous. The custom breakfasts, teas, homemade scones were all superb. Roger's omelettes were outstanding and he even shared some cooking tips with me. Room was spacious, lots of natual light (even a skylight), balcony, iPod station, wireless internet. The only other thing I could have used was a mini fridge. It was nice they had filtered water, soft drinks, tea, DVD library and book library available anytime. Pet-lovers will appreciate the warmth and cuteness the cat adds. The owners put a lot of thought and care into all the details...there was even a yoga mat in my room. They are exceedingly professional and courteous. Roger is a genuine, sincere, and gracious host. Plus, this is a great location close to Johns Hopkins, a big park, and I walked to the waterfront as well. I will stay here again for sure.

My daughter and I were visiting East Coast colleges, and we went to Baltimore to see Johns Hopkins. I am so glad we stayed at the Blue Door. The room was beautiful -- spacious and relaxing with a very large bathroom. Plenty of room for the two of us! We had a much-needed wonderful night's sleep. Amazing sheets! Roger recommended we visit the Fells Point neighborhood for dinner -- we walked there and we had a great meal and gelato after. And then we had Roger's terrific breakfast. It was my daughter's (and my) favorite place to stay, by far, of the whole trip.

Splendid Baltimore B&B

My wife and I spent a night at The Blue Door for our anniversary last weekend. We live in suburban Washington, DC and have family in Baltimore. Accordingly, we're quite familiar with the city. The Blue Door, however, was a revelation. Our stay was superb and, thanks to innkeepers Cecilia & Roger, we discovered the quaint Canton area along the waterfront east of Fells Point, of which we were previously unaware. We arrived on an unusually frigid and snowy early December Saturday afternoon. Roger and Cecilia greeted us warmly and gave us a thorough overview of the inn, our room, and the neighborhood (Butcher's Hill, which is located just east of downtown.) We asked Cecilia for a seafood dinner recommendation and she directed us to Mama's On The Half Shell in the Canton area on the waterfront. She gave us clear and easy-to-follow driving directions. The dinner at Mama's was superb; Canton is a wonderful little neighborhood approximately a five-minute drive down the hill from the B&B. (In pleasant weather you can probably walk it easily in 25 minutes and take a route through Patterson Park, which is west of the B&B.) We spent the rest of the evening in our room, which was luxurious and quiet. We were on the back of the house. The only road noise we heard was from a fire engine in the middle of the night. We especially appreciated the XM Satellite Radio via Direct TV. The king-sized bed was extremely comfortable. We felt as though we had our own little Baltimore row-house hideaway for the night. Roger and Cecilia are very friendly and engaging. Roger's three-course breakfast is outstanding. The coffee, which he makes with a European machine that steams little coffee pods, was as light as a cappuccino yet with a robust French-roast flavor. In retrospect my only regret is that we didn't book two nights at The Blue Door. We'll remedy that when we visit again in the spring. The Blue Door on Baltimore is a winner in every respect.
