“Causway Cottage”
David HansonVestal, NY
We've stayed at The Birches many times.
The Causway Cottage is "new" this year,
reasonably large, has 2 queen sized beds in different bedrooms with separate baths, and will accomodate up to 7 people. It's a little expensive for 4 people, but ideal for a family. We loved it!!!!

“A step back in time”
Theresa BermanIf you are looking for a quiet, clean and comfortable inn that is off the beaten path, yet still close to all that Mount Desert Island had to offer, I highly recommend the birches. The family are lifelong sailors and have interesting stories to share, if your interested. A bit like stepping back into a less rushed and gentile time. A nice way to get a taste of island living. Breakfast is delicious and the conversation is lively!

We were married at The Birches in 1999 and returned the following year for our anniversary. Now it's ten years later and we're still loving The Birches and each other! Thanks Dick, Rocky & Susi!

“The Way Life Should Be”
Donna & Sal CostanzaI wanted to write a review of our stay at The Birches, a B&B on the Maine coast. Our license plate in Maine reads, “The Way Life Should Be” – and our experience at The Birches exemplifies that quote. This beautiful – spacious Bed and Breakfast in Southwest Harbor has awesome views of the sea and islands in that area.
The hospitality and warmth expressed by the owners went beyond gracious and welcoming. They made an
effort to engage in conversation, give tips about the surrounding areas for restaurants, movies, etc.. We felt totally comfortable in their home and were welcome to use their home as if we were part of the family.
I would recommend this B&B to anyone who enjoys a quiet and peaceful setting where they can take in the natural beauty that personifies the New England coast.

“Birches is perfect”
Anke MeyerHyattsville, MD

If you want a crowded, overdecorated room in a centrally located B&B - don't come here. Instead you get a spacious, comfortable room with beautiful furniture and a fantastic view of the water. The only noise you will hear are the birds. Breakfasts are nice (not gourmet - but that wasn't promised). And the members of the Homer family warmly welcome their guests and provide all the advice needed to make a stay on Mt. Desert Island so very memorable.

“Perfectly Peaceful”
D MatherDanville, NH

The Birches is a true coastal Maine stay. The perfect getaway; everything you want in a B&B without all the fuss. Near everything but a world away. The hosts are long-time Island residents and were so pleasant and interesting to talk with. Our room had the most beautiful view of the harbor/cove, and was more than ample and very clean. The grounds were lovely right down to the waterfront.

“A Truly Special Weekend”
Sharon RoyWaterford, ME
10/25/2009
My husband and I had the pleasure of staying with the Homers at The Birches Bed & Breakfast, Sep 11-13, 2009. The B&B was lovely - with beautiful views of Southwest Harbor, and the breakfasts were great. But it was the innkeepers - the Homer family - that really made the weekend special. They are very warm, "down-to-earth" people and they welcomed us with open arms into their home. With only 3 guest rooms, it was a very personal experience. They love to share their home and are genuinely interested in getting to know their guests and helping them plan their daily activities. The breakfast conversations with the Homers and other guests were so interesting, we often lingered for an hour or two, sharing life experiences. After just a few days, we felt like we had known them for years. We have stayed in numerous B&Bs throughout New England, and my husband and I both agreed that our experience at The Birches was the best ever. We highly recommend their B&B and will definitely go back.
