Description

Circa 1734. Sitting on 50 acres off a quiet country road in the scenic Brandywine Valley, this 1734 stone mansion has been wonderfully restored to its Quaker Farmhouse tradition as well as the more formal 1815 Georgian wing, The Manor House. Its rich history includes being a Civil War infirmary and part of the Underground Railroad. Relax by the fire in the living, dining or billiard room. Guest bedrooms feature four-poster canopy beds, fine linens, antiques and some fireplaces. Private fireplace cottages are available with fully equipped kitchens, private patios, washers and dryers. After a hearty gourmet breakfast enjoy peaceful tranquility sitting on the porch overlooking gardens and horse pastures. Relax in the heated spa or swim in the pool.

Lovely weekend getaway from NYC

My husband and I spent a wonderful weekend here last winter. The staff were wonderful, the setting gorgeous. We just wish we had brought our dog - we didn't know it's pet friendly!

A wonderful place so close but feels worlds away

Sweetwater was the first B&B I stayed at and how glad I am! Everything was wonderful - from the beautiful mansion house, nicely appointed and exquisitely comfortable rooms, delectable meals, warm and personable staff, and delightfully friendly dogs and horses. Sweetwater is close to everything in the Brandywine Valley and even close to Philadelphia, but seems like a million miles away. Can't wait to return!
