Description

Circa 1882. Innkeepers Virl and Kathy Banowetz are ace antique dealers, who along with owning one of the Midwest's largest antique shops, have refurbished this elegant, Queen Anne Victorian. The inn is furnished with period antiques that are beyond compare. Guest rooms boast museum-quality pieces such as a Victorian brass bed with lace curtain wings and inlaid mother-of-pearl or an antique mahogany bed with carved birds and flowers. Six guest rooms include whirlpool tubs, and one includes a unique Swiss shower. The innkeepers restored the home's original woodwork, shuttered-windows, fireplaces, gas and electric chandeliers and stained- and engraved-glass windows back to their former glory. They also recently renovated the mansion's attic ballroom into two luxurious suites. The Loft, which is made up of three levels, features pine and wicker furnishings, a sitting room and gas-burning wood stove. On the second level, there is a large Jacuzzi, on the third, an antique queen-size bed. The huge Ballroom Suite boasts 24-foot ceilings, oak and pine antiques, gas-burning wood stove and a Jacuzzi snuggled beside a dormer window. Suite guests enjoy breakfast delivered to their rooms. Other guests feast on an array of mouth-watering treats, such as home-baked breads, seafood quiche and fresh fruits. Evening desserts are served by candlelight.

Wonderful Hospitality

Squires Manor was a delightful place to stay and relax! The breakfasts were delicious, and so were the evening desserts!! Thanks to Kathy and her kind staff for a nice weekend away.

Perfect Place

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to spend our honeymoon. The service was excellent and so was the food! It was an exciting experience that we will never forget!

Mom & Daughters Fall Trip

The house was wonderful and the hospitality was genuine. It was fun to listen to Virl's stories. The breakfast was one of the best I've had at a B and B.

Wonderful Innkeepers!

I've stayed here three separate times now for business. Virk and Kathy are wonderful innkeepers and a treasure of information about the local area. Many furnishings are original to the home and it is impeccably maintained. You can't argue with the food either - it's great. I can't tell you how many times I've already recommended this place!

Service, ambiance make for magic!

When I was making plans for an out-of-state family reunion, a Maquoketa resident recommended Squiers Manor. The owners made the planning easy for me. The Squiers Manor website gives an accurate description of the rooms and how many people each room can accommodate. Even though the website photos are lovely, photos cannot do justice in conveying the warmth and charm of this 19th-century mansion. The house is an extension of its owners, Kathy and Virl. Their kind hospitality made us feel like longtime family friends. They transformed our family reunion into lifetime memories! --Theresa, Chicago

Step back in time

A beautiful old house, completely restored, original wood work, antique furniture, simply gorgeous. You could not ask for better innkeepers than Virl and Kathy. A wonderful breakfast was served each morning and desert in the evening by candlelight. Kathy is a wonderful chef! They will cater to your dietary needs.

InnSide Tip - Bring Your Own Iron
Most of the B&B\'s we stayed at supply their guest with an iron in the room. Squiers Manor did not have an iron, but that was a small inconvenience when compared to the wonderful lodgings that were provided.
