Perfect for a group!

We came to Cheraw for my 35th class reunion and stayed at The Spears Guest House. We had other friends staying with us there. I loved the in suite private bathrooms. The house was so cozy and very clean. The beds were comfortable. I loved that they had a grill in the backyard so we decided to grill out and had so much fun sitting in the back yard. The front porch in the morning was just perfect for coffee and reading the complimentary paper that arrive there everyday. The owners live across the street and were available if we needed anything. Needless to say they left no stone unturned and we did not have to call them for anything except to come and share a glass of wine with us in the backyard. I cannot tell you what a wonderful experience we had. If you are ever within earshot of Cheraw you must stop in and stay here.

True Southern Hospitality

Be sure to book a room at the Spears Guest House! Kay and Larry Spears make your stay in their charming guest house a time for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful town of Cheraw, SC. You can walk to town or church from their location. Our family greatly enjoyed the Cheraw Spring Festival. Enjoy good food and lots of history. A must for you history buffs that enjoy learning about The War of Northern Aggression. We enjoyed our fresh coffee, muffins and treats for breakfast while sitting on the front porch. This house provided us with privacy and quiet while delivering southern charm!

“Very nice experience for a business traveler!” Reviewed January 25, 2012 Was in town for a couple of days for business in Cheraw and chose Spears. So glad I did! It was a lovely place to relax after a long work day. The house was charming and immaculate. My room was cozy, well-decorated and spacious. if I have to be away from home....

...this is where I want to be. Beautiful home, Hardwood floors, large rooms, grassy back yard with lawn furniture, gas grill and huge pecan trees, comfy casual front porch with rocking chairs, porch swing, and Story-time with Larry & Kay". So much to enjoy.

Subtle Southern Charm B&B near Blue

Normally, I do not write reviews as they can be artificial and misleading, but this stay compelled me to perform a modern day "pen to pad". Cheraw is an absolutely charming town with antebellum, historic homes just yards always from your private place. The downtown offers fresh food ranging from Oskars, a local authentic German establishment, to an Oyster Bar. The Spears offers a very accommodating stay for the business traveler, as in my case, or for couples desiring an escape. As a traveling businessman, I would classify this stay as one of the top overnight experiences I've had for 2011, and I travel 30% of the time. If you're looking for a beautiful experience with Southern charm and you're passing through South Carolina, then you've got to check this place out.

My Friends in Cheraw

Over the past four years I have traveled extensively for business throughout the Southeast. Ordinarily, I stay in chain hotels but prior to my first visit to Cheraw a colleague advised I stay with the Spears. My first visit was a like no other business trip I had been on to date. I came away feeling like I had been away on a pleasure trip. The house was comfortable and accommodating, providing everything I could have needed but more importantly Larry and Kay personified southern hospitality to me. There laid back charm and deep roots in the area make them the perfect ambassadors for Cheraw and the Sand Hills region. Over the last few years I have come to truly look forward to my visits to Cheraw and my time with the Spears. I suspect that I feel like many of their guests; that is to say that rather than finding just a nice place to stay I have also found friends in Cheraw.

InnSide Tip - Try the homemade bread
If Kay has her usual homemade breads in the kitchen, they are delicious!

Yankee in the South

That banana bread Miss Kay serves is fantastic! No matter how hard I tried though, she wouldn't give up the recipe. And what a pair of entertainers those two are! They make you feel right at home with a glass of wine and Larry sitting on the porch strumming his guitar.

Sweet stay

My wife & I spent a couple of days at the Guest House. We found the accomodations very comfortable & exceptionally clean. Cheraw is a lovely little town with many beautiful homes. A must-see for those who love antebellum homes. Kay & Larry are very easy to work with.

Best stay away from home ever!!

The Spears Guest House and it's proprieters deserve all the positive superlatives anyone could muster. My wife and I spent our only overnights in Cheraw there recently and they definitely won't be our last. The accomodations are terrific but what really makes the stay are the owners, Kay and Larry. They are endlessly knowledgeable about Cheraw, which is a place well worth knowing about because of both it's beauty and it's history. But more than that, I'm sure Kay and Larry sparkle wherever they are. If there's anything to make the stay perfect that they haven't already thought of and furnished in their warm and homey guesthouse, the mere mention of it puts them in motion in a valiant attempt to provide total satisfaction. Our stay was in midwinter, but the ambiance created by the place and the hosts made us feel more like spring was imminent. Staying in the house is more like living at ease in a historical setting than hiding out in a museum, like some B&B's. Everything we needed was available and we helped ourselves according to our own timetable. I like that system; no schedule to follow but your own. We had the place to ourselves due to the timing, but its easy to imagine conversations with other guests astute enough to visit Cheraw happeing in the intimate parlor or around the dining table. The closeness of the rooms and size of the entire place would prompt that. The Spears keep it small and do it right. The combination of modern convenience with the hospitality and grace of a bygone era made this a gem we're very happy to have discovered and can hardly wait to return to. Kay and Larry embody that hospitality and grace along with a healthy dose of fun.

Exactly as described

My family stayed at the Spears Guest House this past weekend. We were in town for a family gathering. The house is decorated wonderfully. Each bedroom has it's own charm. I loved how we each had our own bathroom and yet we could all sit and gather in the dining room or living room to sit and enjoy each other's company. There were TV's in each bedroom and one in the living room. The dining room had a great stero system. Kay and Larry were very helpful and had picked up the soda we liked before we got there. The neighborhood is very nice and quite at night and in an old historic section of Cheraw with lots of grand old homes. I would stay here a again if we get the chance to come back down.
