Circa 1876. Where Danish sheepherders settled in this 7,000-foot-high mountain valley, the Sorensen family built a cluster of fishing cabins. Thus began a century-old tradition of valley hospitality. The focal point of Sorensen's is a "stave" cabin -- a reproduction of a 13th-century Nordic house. Now developed as a Nordic ski resort, a portion of the Mormon-Emigrant Trail and Pony Express Route pass near the inn's 165 acres. In the summer, river rafting, fishing, pony express re-rides and llama treks are popular Sierra pastimes. Lake Tahoe lies 20 miles to the north. Breakfast is included in the rates for bed & breakfast units only. All other cabins are equipped with kitchens.

We spent 4 days at Sorenson's over the holidays. Our cabin was cozy and clean. The bed was comfortable. It was wonderful to have a kitchen. The gas stove kept the cabin warm. The staff was extremely helpful, and breakfast our last day was great. We really enjoyed the unique Gingerbread houses on the dining room tables. The location was great for cross-country skiing and the sauna provided welcome warmth and muscle-relaxing (and a fun way to meet other guests). We look forward to another stay.

In one night's stay, I felt more comfortable, relaxed, and welcome than any vacation my 47 years have allowed. Thank you for the happiness you have given my children.
