Circa 1790. The Silvermine consists of the Old Mill, the Country Store, the Coach House and the Tavern itself. Primitive paintings and furnishings, as well as family heirlooms, decorate the inn. Guest rooms and dining rooms overlook the Old Mill, the waterfall and swans gliding across the millpond. Some guest rooms offer items such as canopy bed or private decks. In the summer, guests can dine al fresco and gaze at the mill pond.

My wife and I have stayed at over 60 B&Bs during the past 12 years; this is the first one far outside our usual 4-hour radius from our home on the east coast. It was a good pick. As one might expect, the inn is attractive and clean. Breakfasts were very tasty and beyond the more typical scrambled eggs. But, what makes the difference between one inn and another is the owner and Richard is one of the most hospitable and engaging owners we've met. Yeah, I'd stay here, again.

Silvermine Tavern

This inn is convenient to several fun activities, but it just wasn't otherwise impressive. The owner and his wife were away for a few days, coincidentally. Although the inn sitter wasn't there to greet us on a late Sunday afternoon, neither did she welcome us Monday morning during the continental breakfast. She spoke to us when we ran into her Monday afternoon, but never introduced herself, never asked what we did, what we would do, if we had any questions -- the kind of interaction my wife and I have come to expect at a B&B. Physically, the tavern is tired. The paint on the exterior is cracked, chipping and peeling -- as was the paint around our room's bathroom window. But that wasn't as disconcerting as the mildew around the tub, the very noisy vent fan, or the toilet which also refilled loudly. I would also note that the inn's entry is from the street. If you look at the inn's home page, the picture shows its walkway; it ends at the street. No sidewalk, grass, curb. I was surprised they didn't choose to have the walkway extend around the inn to end at a much quieter street and directly across from the inn's parking lot.
