Circa 1937. In simple low-country style, this inn rests on Pawley's Island, a narrow barrier island with the ocean on one side and a salt marsh on the other. In summer, you may not need your shoes again till you leave for home. You'll settle in as if this is the family guest house, with comfortable furnishings, wood decks set atop seagrass with ocean front or view rooms. Fruit, sausage, eggs, toast and grits are often served for breakfast. Three meals are included in your room rate, and the main meal is served at 1:15 p.m. Crab divine, fried chicken, and seafood quiche are samples from the mid-day menu. In the evening, shrimp and grits, baked fish, and good old southern soul food may be offered. Dessert features Pecan Pie and Key Lime Pie. During the summer, reservations are weekly, and the rest of the year there's a two-night minimum. The inn offers wellness, artist and nature weeks and there are half-price children's weeks.
