Circa 1871. Adorning Newport's Point Section neighborhood with its impressive Empire Victorian frame, this year-round seaside bed and breakfast sits across from historic Hunter House amidst other spectacular Victorian mansions and restored Colonial homes. Named after the wife of a wealthy shipping merchant, whom it was built for in 1871, it is tastefully furnished with period antiques and family heirlooms. Relax by the fire in the sitting room. Watch the sun set over the harbor from the wicker-filled front porch that also faces the award-winning gardens. Afternoon tea, hot cider and homemade desserts are thoughtful indulgences. Air-conditioned guest bedrooms feature working fireplaces, four-poster beds and views of Narragansett Bay. Gourmet breakfasts are elegantly presented and sure to satisfy. The renovated roof-top cupola is now the Tower Sitting Room with a panoramic vista of the waterfront.

Newport Christmas

We stayed at the Sarah Kendall house for a few days after Christmas. The inn-keepers were so nice and helpful - suggesting places for us to go out to eat downtown. It was great having treats of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies waiting for us after the cold walk back from dinner! This B&B is a great location for getting to downtown easily - about a two block walk from the closest restaurants downtown. It is also only about a mile or so drive from mansions, which would easily be walkable if done in the warmer months. Seeing the Newport mansions decorated for Christmas was great but we definitely want to come back in the summer, because in December, on the water, it was so cold you could only stand being outside for a few minutes and we definitely couldn't handle the cliffwalk, which we hope to return to do soon. And when we do, we will definitely stay at the Sarah Kendall house again!
