Romantic and Restful!

Ruby Cove is bursting with bold color, people passion, zesty flavors for the eyes as well as the appetite! Donna will make your stay everything you hope it will be. It was a lovely experience for me and my 13 year old daughter to celebrate her passage into her "maturing years".

Top-Notch

Ruby's Cove was awesome and an amazing place in Greenport, NY to visit, relax and explore the North Fork of Long Island. This unique three bedroom house is so beautiful, fantastically furnished and totally inviting and only one block from downtown. Donna - who owns the home - is top-notch and is tapped into the local North Fork scene. She is a wealth of local knowledge and will always steer you right direction in terms of recommending beaches, farms, restaurants and vineyards. Plus, Donna always left out great treats to snack on such as wine, potato chips, pretzels, cake and more. And, her breakfast, although served late, was absolutely delicious.

Perfect Weekend Getaway Trip

We had the most amazing weekend at Ruby's Cove in Greenport. Donna is really knowledgeable about the area and places to explore. The first day we took it easy pumpkin picking at Harbe's Farm and walking around town and along the docks. That night we went to dinner at Portobello in Greenport. It is right on the bay so has a pretty view (tables along the window). We both had soups to start and then had fresh seafood specials- DELICIOUS and excellent service. The next morning we had a DELICIOUS and creative breakfast prepared by Donna and then set off for a bike ride that Donna recommended (bike loop in Orient)- we ended up making it a full day trip- collecting sea glass along the way and taking pictures of the spectacular ocean views and beautiful historic homes (Orient Village). After several hours of biking we realized that we were starving and stopped at the Hellenic Cafe on our way back. There we ate an EXCELLENT authentic Greek meal- falafel, Greek salad, grape leaves, spanokipita and even baklava- couldn't stop eating! They also had nice outdoor seating and the BEST lemonade we have ever had! Their wine list is really impressive as well. Definitely pick Donna's brain while you are there- make sure to ask about the 57 (or 67?) steps cliff- it is absolutely breathtaking!!! Donna also really knows her vineyards- Shinn was beautiful and has an awesome red table wine and merlot. Also be sure to ask about her favorite pie stand- Briermere. Overall the inn is so charming, welcoming and homey. The bedroom (Madeline) was beautifully decorated with a pretty corner bay window and an extremely comfortable bed. If I had any recommendation of something to change (which was nearly impossible to think of) I would just recommend setting out the evening snacks (wine, cheese, olives, etc) a little bit earlier, because we were usually heading to dinner when they were out and did not want to ruin our appetites. One thing is for sure though, between the huge breakfasts, fridge full of snacks and evening munchies, you will definitely NOT be hungry!

Weekend of Romance

When we first arrived at Ruby's, Donna, the Keeper of the Cove, laid it all out for us - this weekend was about us, no tv in the room, no cells at the table, and the walk to the room - You have GOT to see the hallway! She was so right. It was just what we needed to unload from the stress of everyday life. And, since we didn't have a TV in the room, well, our Son was Born Feb 3rd - 8lbs 2 oz. We will definitely be going back to see Donna! And to visit the Gnomes. One of the rooms has a door just for Gnomes. And right next door - The Greenport Harbor Brewery. I actually got to spend time with the brewmaster. Nice break from all the wineries.

Love that Ruby's Cove!

Just returned from a wonderful 2 night stay at Ruby's Cove. The Inn is beautiful and what can I say about Donna??? She's the best, made us feel right at home and gave us good tips of places to go and restaurants to try. She's extremely hospitable and truly makes you feel like your in a "home away from home". Her breakfasts are delicious and plentiful. I especially enjoyed her Rumrunner Ruby's Cove French Toast and her Hawaiian Bread topped with delicious ambrosia jam. The town of Greenport is very laidback and you can walk all over. Donna has bikes available too if you want to ferry over to Shelter Island and bike around it. This is a place you will go back to again and again and Donna will be just like an old friend.

Like a home away from home

My husband and I stayed at Ruby's Cove for an extended weekend while we were on Long Island for a wedding. We had stayed at a B&B before in Greenpoint and had a nice time. However, staying at Ruby's Cove really felt like staying at a friends house. Donna was there to meet us when we arrived and made an extensive effort to make us feel at home. She was full of helpful information about things to do in the area, and even suprised us with a little something to eat when we accidentally slept through dinner one evening. Her home has a really warm feeling and we both felt comfortable curling up downstairs with a book, which we certainly hadn't felt at the previous place we had stayed in. Overall, we really enjoyed it and will definitely be staying there again.

A Wonderful hostess in a wonderful house!

Our stay at Ruby's Cove was a gift, and what a wonderful choice it was. Donna made us feel at home the minute we walked in, and by the time we left we felt like best friends. She is an outstanding cook. Breakfast was different, and delicious every morning. We stayed in the "Madeline Room", so we had a very comfortable bed in the turret. Donna has bikes for her guest's use, so we took advantage of them. We have, and would recommend Ruby's Cove for a great get-away.

Amazing Bed and Outstanding Breakfast

Donna takes the two Bs very seriously! The beds are amazingly comfortable so sleeping late is a must! Also, these "breakfasts" are definitely more like "brunches" or "feasts." She uses fresh ingredients to create dishes like eggs with spinach and ham, a spring vegetable medley of asparagus, corn & sweet potatoes and caramelized french toast. Unbelievable. The best part is that Ruby's Cove is super-convenient. Easy walk to town or the Shelter Island Ferry and right next door to the brewery. Yay!

A Treat for all the senses!

Proprietor was a blast. Amazing food, and she offered a perfect combination of warmth and respect of privacy. The bedding was wonderful, rooms were spotless! It felt like we stepped back to another era. Beautiful furnishings from wall to floor, soft music played while we ate an awesome breakfast in plush robes that she supplied. We felt like we really made a friend in Greenport, will definitely be back!

Terrific Weekend

Donna is a fantastic innkeeper, lots of good advice, can get you that hard to get reservation, and makes a killer breakfast as well. Nice porch for coffee in the morning or a drink later in the day. Walking distance to downtown and many restaurants, not to mention the brewery next door. We had a great time and would love to go back.

Fell in Love with the Place

We all headed there for a friends wedding- Having once lived on Long Island I've never stayed at a B&B there-But I was more than pleasantly surprised! I felt like we were swept away by Ruby's Cove into a different time thanks in part to the decor and the owner Donna. It was beautiful and comfortable. Warm and welcoming. I actually could've moved in! From Donna's amazing b'fasts-french toast to eggs..and not just any french toast or eggs- Everything just seemed so good and special- I loved enjoying my coffee on the beautiful wrap around porch...so relaxing. I can't wait to get back there...to get back "home"!

Great Experience!

We recently spent a delightful weekend at Ruby's Cove. It was a college reunion of sorts. What makes Ruby's Cove so special is Donna. She goes out of her way to make sure every detail is perfect. From room flowers to meals, drinks and snacks there is always a surprise waiting. We have never had such individual attention at another B&B. Just beware she is very possesive of her kitchen! We definitely will stay again.

Would Love to Live here... can we?

Stayed for 4 nights at Ruby's Cove as part of a 2 week holiday to New York from Australia. We researched a few places in Greenport and settled on Ruby's partly due to the great reviews it had already received. I can honestly report to anyone considering staying here to not hesitate and book your stay immediately. This might end up being the best decision you have made in quite a while. Put simply and not wanting to overstate too much, B and B's just don't get better than this. The house itself is magnificent, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the hospitality is first class. Donna, the 'keeper of the Cove' has found a niche as the perfect host who will go above and beyond to make your stay memorable for all the right reasons. Oh and did I mention the superb breakfasts? Stop wasting time reading any more reviews, just book your stay and be ready to write your own. Thanks again Donna.

Great Find!

We had originally planned on staying in Montauk or East Hampton, but decided on Greenport because the other areas were booked. Donna is very welcoming, helpful, and energetic!!! She made our stay such a treat. She provided suggestions on what to do, see, and places to eat. The house is very quaint and welcoming. The room we stayed in was the turret shaped room. The bed is wonderful and the room is tastefully decorated. The bathroom is small but adequate with the vanity separate from the bathroom.. It is a very special place!!! See seperate entries about the local restaurants we loved!!! Frisky Oyster, Noah's. Amano's, and A'Lures. Loved them all. also, Greemport Harbor Brewery!. Can't say enough about the area. We loved the Mayberrry meets witneries feel about the town. We'll be back!!!!

I made a new friend!

the inn is a visual delight with surprises in every nook and cranny. the rooms are small but comfy and lots of attention to detail......and clean!!! breakfast was served at a mutually agreed upon time and there were always little treats left out for us to come 'home' to. donna made great suggestions re: wineries to visit, where to see the sunset, where to eat. i am looking at my calendar to find a time to return.

Excellent Greenport B & B

Everything said about Donna in previous reviews is true. My wife and I go out to the North Fork quite a bit, and we'll definitely come back to Ruby's Cove on our next trip.

Ruby's Cove

The B & B is located in a quaint village with lots of fine shops and friendly art galleries. The village, in turn, sits amid numerous delightful wineries within half an hour's drive. The wines go very well with the fine food served by numerous local restaurants. Ruby's owner serves outstanding breakfasts and afternoon snacks, accompanied by local wines and delicious ale from a micro-brewery nearby, The house is beautifully furnished - Victorian-style; it is clean, cozy, warm and comfortable. Donna Gruber (the owner, cook and raconteur) is the gem in Ruby's crown. We had an enjoyable and pleasant experience that we recommend whole heartedly to others seeking a quiet vacation.

Like staying at your best friend's house, but better!

My husband and I stayed at Ruby's Cove in August. We've stayed at many inns over the years, but this is the place we felt most at home. The inn itself is charming, and the beds are pristine and amazingly comfortable. Ruby is lovely and always ready to help. Want to go to the beach? She'll give you a beach pass, towels, and an umbrella. Hungry or thirsty? There are snacks and a variety of cold drinks in the downstairs fridge. Like to read? Browse through the bookshelves and try the comfy chairs with great lighting. I could go on, but would get sad we're not there. We'll be back!

Felt at home!

We went on a couples trip to Ruby's Cove at the end of the summer. What an amazing little escape from our busy lives in Manhattan. If you're planning a trip to Greenport you must give Ruby's Cove a try. The owner Donna made us all feel at home the minute we walked in. She is extremely warm and welcoming but not at all smothering. She whipped us up a delicious breakfast each morning, gave us tips on neat beaches and good lunch spots and then let us loose!(she had a garage full of bikes for us to borrow and cruise around on-super convenient and a great way to see the town). In the evenings we would make our way back to Ruby's Cove for a glass of wine and a re-cap of the days events with Donna then head out to dinner. We all liked Donna so much that we even tried to coerce her to come out with us at night. Ruby's Cove is beautiful and cozy but it is the magical little caretaker Donna that makes it such a special place. We will all definitely be back! One last plus-there is a cute little brewery right next door!
