34 Lake Shore DrHague, NY 12836-9705
Circa 1907. Artist Harry Watrous built this Dutch Colonial mansion, and some of the property may have been acquired with an especially good poker hand. Be sure to ask the innkeepers about Watrous and the legend of the creature in the lake. The inn is set on more than six acres, and offers wonderful views of Lake George. The innkeepers restored the turn-of-the-century inn and its four guest rooms. The two redecorated everything except for the living room. This room was chosen for a special redecorating project by House Beautiful magazine, which featured the inn in a six-page feature. The living room is stunning, the decor and furniture arrangement was selected carefully as not to overpower the lake views. There is a veranda lined with wicker for those who wish to relax and enjoy the sight of mountains and the water. A buffet breakfast is presented each morning with items such as souffles, frittatas, granola, cereal, fruit and homemade baked goods.
