River House Bed and Breakfast Getaway Retreat

We stayed at this B&B for the first time in October 2011. When looking for B&Bs on the internet we were kind of surprised to find Machesney Park/Rockford as the locale since I never pegged that area as a B&B type area. Wow, was I wrong! We were in the Getaway Lodge and stayed in the Timber Suite. Even though there are video clips of each of the rooms on the website, the videos did not do the room justice. It was huge, comfortable with a spectacular view and the adjoining private porch with the hot tub was great. Even though you are super close to local eateries and entertainment, you really feel like you're "away" from everything with the property being right on the river, and set back from the road. Patty was incredibly friendly and helpful. Maybe it's just me, but there's always that question mark when staying at a Bed and Breakfast. I mean, you're there in someone's home. Will it be awkward? Private? Uncomfortable? It was definitely not awkward or uncomfortable and we were in our own little world. And in the morning, breakfast was AMAZING. Patty said to come hungry and we listened, much to our delight! Both the food and conversation around the breakfast table were awesome! It was so nice to have our room and stay be romantic and private and a bit secluded from the kids and stresses, but then have a nice friendly conversation-filled breakfast. We would definitely return again and would highly recommend to others.

We stayed here in September 2011 for our anniversary and it was a great choice. We live about an hour away and when we arrived Patty showed us the lay of the land and let us get settled to a great evening and night of relaxation and time to enjoy spending time together. The Bordello suite was great. I highly recommend this B&B.

Every time we stay at the River House, the hospitality & cleanliness is first rate. This has become our favorite "getaway place". This is 7th visit in the last year! Quite frankly, we'd keep coming back just to enjoy the gourmet breakfast...dependably good, tasty, and different entree each time. Love it!

My husband and I booked the Bordello Suite for our wedding night, and we are glad we did! The owners let us pick up the key a day early so we wouldn't have to leave our reception early, and the suite, when we arrived, was in great condition: clean, cool, with soft music playing on the stereo. Very welcoming! We passed a lovely, relaxing night there, a welcome respite after the excitement and stress of the wedding! We did not stay for breakfast, as we had other engagements, but we met the owners and they were friendly and warm. Would definitely recommend it to anyone, and hope we will have opportunity to go again!

Thank you so much for making our wedding exactly the way we wanted it to be. It was relaxed, beautiful, elegant, romantic, and very intimate. You made us and our families feel at home and comfortable and everyone loved the atmosphere. Thanks also to Patty (innkeeper/chef/officiator) for marrying us which made the day just that much more special. We will always remember this weekend! We absolutely loved our room and hot and the personal touches you have throughout the house. It was perfect for our first night as a married couple. And the amazing breakfast the next morning! Wow!

We are very glad that we decided to celebrate our Bulgarian Family New Year here in the Timeaway Lodge. The house is a great place, even for a large group of people, and we loved the fact we were able to use the barbeque grills in the snow! The rooms are very clean and spacious making this a wonderful facility to have time away from home. We would recommend this place to anyone who is interested in having a getaway with friends or family--A fabulous location right on the river! We had a great time!

The way Patty, the innkeeper, makes us feel so at home, and yet also pampered, is truly a gift. This is my 3rd time here for the ASDP retreat and I so look forward to enjoying the Timeaway Lodge with its peace and tranquility. The attention to detail here is much appreciated by the entire group...A great time, as usual!

The Timeaway Lodge was just right...A wonderful way to spend my 70th birthday with family gathered around in a picture perfect location. Everyone enjoyed the riverside bonfire...great place for family bonding! We had a wonderful time here and are looking foward to coming back next year for another family reunion/birthday celebration.

We had never stayed at a Bed & Breakfast before and what a great experience this was to celebrate our 11th Wedding Anniversary. The room, the food, the view, all combined to make this such a memorable stay. River view from our private hot tub with the bonus wildlife of watching a blue heron up close was lovely! The extra amenities in the room made it so special--treats, games, bedtime storybook & lodge style furnishings. Just a GREAT GETAWAY!

We enjoy EVERYTHING about the River House. The breakfast, great view, fabulous company. This was our 5th time here and I know we'll be back again. We've stayed here during all the different seasons and always been happy, but now we know October is the perfect weather for the biking and hiking we love to do...So guess where we'll be this time next year?!! Always exceptional hospitality, and by far, the best B&B we have ever stayed in!

There's no better way to enjoy a visit the Rock River Valley than a stay at the River House. My fiance and I enjoyed a delicious breakfast, scenic views of the river, a great room, and wonderful hospitality. We definitely will recommend this B&B to our friends and family.
