Christmas Trifle

Description:
A traditional Christmas trifle that can be made for any holiday or in individual servings. This recipe was handed down to me by my Welsh grandmother.

Ingredients:
1 Pkg. raspberry Jello
2 pkg. lady fingers (or 1 pound cake)
1 pkg. vanilla custard
2 tblsp. raspberry jam
2 cups fresh or canned fruit (any combination of fruits except fresh pineapple)
2 cups fresh whipped cream (or can of ready-made)
chocolate shavings
sprinkles or other decorations
Sherry (not necessary, but is the traditional recipe)

Directions:
Using a trifle bowl, cover bottom with lady fingers or pound cake. Stand remaining lady fingers on sides until they touch. Spread raspberry jam on bottom layer and sprinkle with sherry if desired. Make jello using 1/2 the amount of liquid and carefully pour over lady fingers (they will absorb the jello). Chill and when set add a layer of fruit. Cover fruit layer with a layer of vanilla pudding (layer of pudding should come up to top of lady fingers. Chill and let custard/pudding set. Add whipped cream and garnish right before serving.
