Circa 1940. Just south of Mammoth Lakes, at an altitude of 7,000 feet, you'll find this secluded retreat amid three acres of ponds, open meadows and the High Sierra Mountains. Country-style here includes luxury touches, such as a double Jacuzzi tub, queen-size bed, down pillows, comforters and a skylight for star-gazing. In the '50s, ponds on the property served as a "U-Catch-Em." Folks rented fishing poles and paid 10 cents an inch for the fish they caught. Nearby Crowley Lake is still one of the best trout-fishing areas in California. Romantic country weddings are popular here. Guests are free to simply relax in the peaceful setting, but hiking, horseback riding and skiing all are available in the area. In the afternoons, guests are treated to snacks and wine.
