Description

Circa 1876. Thirty-five acres of woods and fields surround this historic Victorian country home. If warm hospitality and natural beauty seem appealing, then this is the right place. Comfortable guest bedrooms feature hand stenciling, patchwork quilts, marble-top dressers, antiques and even Grandma's feather bed. Homemade jellies and jams accompany a hearty breakfast. Gaze at the deer, wild birds and other wildlife from the upstairs veranda's porch swing.

I went to Mount Carroll to visit a great aunt in a nursing home located a two minute walk away from Prairie Path. Mount Carroll is a great little scenic farm town. I was warmly greeted by Fern, signed the guest book, offered some fudge and cookies, and shown my room and bathroom. After that, we had a nice chat in the living room. My room was very nice, the bed (a gem) was comfortable, and the bathroom was pleasantly warm in the winter. I didn't need an alarm, as the smell of fresh baked coffee cake woke me at about 5:30 (but I went back to sleep). In the morning, the other two guests and I had wonderful Swedish pancakes, sausage, fresh fruit, juice, coffee, and that coffee cake I smelled. I had seconds of all of it. A very pleasant experience.
