         <title>Ann Starrett Mansion</title>
         <link>http://www.iloveinns.com/bed_and_breakfasts/washington/annstarrettmansion.htm</link>
<description>George Starrett came from Maine to Port Townsend and became the major residential builder. By 1889, he had constructed one house a week, totaling more than 350 houses. The Smithsonian believes the Ann Starrett's elaborate free-hung spiral staircase is the only one of its type in the United States. A frescoed dome atop the octagonal tower depicts four seasons and four virtues. On the first day of each season, the sun causes a ruby red light to point toward the appropriate painting. The mansion won a &quot;Great American Home Award&quot; from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.</description>
