Perfect Day in Flagstaff

GrandCanyonHDRWelcome to Flagstaff, Arizona!  One of the World’s seven wonders is just around the corner from Flagstaff – The Grand Canyon!  There are actually two routes to get to the Grand Canyon.  One is the quicker one, 1 ¼ hours and not as scenic as the second route at about 2 hours.  Along the 2 hour route you will have the opportunity to drive through Wupatki National Park where you can see and walk in and around Ancient Indian ruins.  You also get a peak at the Painted Desert!  There is also a stop further up the road where you will get a sneak peak at the Little Colorado River before heading into the Grand Canyon!

flagstaffarboretum408In Flagstaff we have a wonderful Arboretum, which is at its best typically between May and July.  The Museum of Northern Arizona is a real treat to see all that there is available to be seen from ancient times.  During the winter months enjoy Snowbowl for skiing, and during the off season take the ski lift ride up to view the entire Flagstaff area.  On a clear day, you can see the Grand Canyon and the peaks of Jerome – another fabulous town a few hours from Flagstaff – it is also on our recommended “day trip” list).

trailsFlagstaff also has a fantastic Urban Trail System, with a plethora of hiking, biking and walking trails to tackle!!  Many books offer each of the trails laid out in level of difficulty, challenge, scenery and time elements.

sedonaWhile staying in Flagstaff, we recommend a day trip to see Sedona. Another popular wonder (which is not one of the 7, but should be number 8!) Sedona is known as “Red Rock” country – and what a sight it is with the sun beating down on the magnificent rock formations.  Sedona is about a 30 minute drive South of Flagstaff.  There are additional trials here to hike, bike and climb as well!

Flagstaff offers a handful of great restaurants for your lunches and dinners.

Come visit Flagstaff; see the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Ancient Indian ruins and much more that Northern Arizona has to offer.  There is much to see and enjoy within a two-hour drive.
