After months of work in South Texas, far from familiar faces, I felt the need to escape. I heard a radio advertisement, sought information, and reserved a room and massage at Pangani Retreat. Using an on-line map, GPS, and noting the entrance as described by the host, I found the place. With a couple of dogs barking and being in uncommon territory, there was a little trepidation. Hesitation turned to amusement after seeing the assortment of penned animals at the back of the property. After meeting the somewhat eccentric (in a very good way) proprietor, I become much more comfortable. The East room was clean and decorated with a cool contemporary motif. Among the amenities were a queen bed, futon couch, desk, spacious tiled shower, refrigerator, microwave, white cotton robes, and satellite TV, thoughtfully set with pleasant music playing upon arrival. After a little wine and food and unwinding, I received a very enjoyable massage in the massage room of the main house. Following a peaceful sleep, the morning sun woke this refreshed guest. Coffee fueled, I swam laps in the resort style pool. Although some sweeping was a bit overdue, the surroundings were uniquely exotic and wild with tall palm trees, tropical plants, flowing waterfalls, and a colorful macaw nearby. A hummingbird graced the scene. Just what I needed. Enjoy your visit.
