The largest city in the Cattaraugus County is the city of Olean and it serves as the transportation, financial, business, and entertainment hub of the county. Olean is one of the principal cities of the Southern Tier region of New York. The city of Olean has a lot to offer its visitors being located where the Olean Creek is and this creek flows into the Allegheny River. The first settler in this area was an Indian named Ischua and it was in 1765 and it remained sparsely populated until Major Adam Hoops acquired this land and named it Olean after Olean Shephard, the first white child born in this area. There are a lot of interesting facts about the town of Olean. It is the home of the Olean Huskies and the Archbishop Walsh Eagles. It is also the home to the famous Rock City Park. Olean's oldest church is St. Stephens Episcopal Church which was established in 1830. These are just some of the attractions of this wonderful place.
