Circa 1906. A designated Landmark house, this inn was built in 1906 by E.J. Doughty, a local master craftsman, for himself and his family. The home’s relaxed ambiance reflects his skill and sensitivity. Now known for its quality of food and warm friendliness, enjoy fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies after check-in, a before-dinner wine and cheese social hour, and decadent chocolate desserts in the evening. Sunny and inviting guest bedrooms feature feather beds, two-person spa tubs and fireplaces. A two-course gourmet breakfast is served each morning.

Historic Interest

The Main House (1556 Polk St) was originally built in 1874 as Ladies Hall, for Napa College. In the 1880s, a large Queen Anne addition was added. Architect for this addition was Luthor Turton, Napa's premiere architect of the 1890s-1910s. Turton was a graduate of Napa College; it is thought that the Ladies Hall addition was one of his first commissions. Cabernet House (1301 Jefferson St) was built by E W Doughty as a home for his family, and as an example of his craftsmanship as a builder. Doughty was Napa's "mansion builder", responsible for many of the Napa's Landmark buildings and churches. Another example of his work is the Noyes Mansion, current home of the Wine Spectator Magazine, just 2 blocks away.

Policies

Minimum Stay Requirements:Minimum 2-night stay on Friday or Saturday
Children Restrictions:Walden Cottage
Cancellation:•We run a full pre-payment in advance when we receive your reservation request. •Applicable taxes/service charges are automatically added to your invoice. •For guests staying 1 to 4 nights, NOT traveling with others: In the unlikely event you must shorten your stay, check out early, change your dates of stay, or cancel with less than fourteen (14) days notice, please understand that we must ask you to take responsibility for the cost of your entire reservation. If we are able to re-sell all or part of your room(s), we will credit you this amount, less a $25 processing fee. •For guests staying 5+ nights OR traveling w/guests staying in other rooms: You must cancel at least 30 days prior to avoid being responsible for the entire cost of their stay. Group bookings (more than 9 room nights total): 60 days advance cancellation required. •A $25 fee is applied to cover charges from the credit card company if you cancel *prior* to the above periods. •Regretfully, we do not have a bellman or elevator. Since you carry your own luggage to your room, you may want to pack several smaller bags instead of one large one, as they will be easier for you to transport up and down the stairs (we have stairs going up to both the main floor (from the parking lot) and to the second floor). •Most important: We want you to have a great time in Napa! If there is anything we can do to make your stay more special, please let us know. :)
Smoking:Outside Only.
