A haven in the wilderness

We arrived in the evening and received a warm welcome. The location is remote and we had dinner in an excellent restaurant were 11 km away. The common (breakfast) area was generous and offered a spectacular view through the trees to the Sound and the American coast in the distance. The beach is accessible via a steep path down. The delicious breakfast was an original fruity french toast, with all guests sitting together at a big table getting to meet one another. The house seems ideal for workshops and retreats, which the hosts are very well equipped for. We will certainly come back!

We love this place!

We visited previously but not for at least the past 6 or so years. We recently took visiting relatives to Victoria and then on to Ocean Wilderness. The Inn's ownership had changed since our previous visits. We were delighted to meet Lori and Andy and to see the all the nice improvements they've done to the place. The trail down to the beach has been much improved. Two in our party had dietary restrictions - one vegan and another gluten-intolerant. Lori accommodated us graciously with lovely, appropriate breakfasts for all. We were also pleased to find a number of new eateries in the area that could accommodate our dietary needs. Our time there is always too short but we'll be back.

InnSide Tip - Eat Early on Monday Evenings
If you are staying in the Shirley, Sooke, Port Renfrew area over a Monday, make your dinner arrangements early - before 7:30 PM. The sidewalks tend to roll-up early that evening. Also, alcohol is not available at the grocery store. Be sure to get to the state package store on Saturday or stop at Buffy's on your way through Sooke.
