Red Tail Mountain golf resort is an amazingly challenging course with significant hills and slopes just outside the town limits. Don't miss the Appalachian Trail which runs through the area, Watauga Lake with its miles of pristine shoreline and the Virginia Creeper Trail (rails to trails site for biking and hiking. Mountain City is in the far northeast corner of its state, just minutes from North Carolina's Boone/Blowing Rock. It's quieter--a step back to the 1950s (in the architecture). The location offers a wide variety of hiking and biking trails with mountain scenery plus the Virginia Creeper and Appalachian Trails to the north, history and Watauga Lake (fish and boat) to the southwest and Boone/Banner Elk, NC's shopping, sites, Appalachian State U, skiing and Grandfather Mountain to the south and east.
