Description

Circa 1850. On a knoll facing the Blue Ridge Mountains, this historic, award-winning country estate is listed in the Virginia Landmarks Register. Built in the Federal style, the inn boasts the old summer kitchen, smoke house and stables on six rural acres of meadow and pasture. Accommodations include guest bedrooms in the brick manor house and the slaves' quarters, now a romantic two-story cottage. All of the delightfully decorated rooms have working fireplaces, terry cloth robes and marble baths. The cottage offers more spacious privacy, a Jacuzzi for two and a small kitchen. Savor a generous gourmet breakfast served on china and linens in the formal dining room or al fresco on one of the porches. Enjoy afternoon wine and cheese in the drawing room.

The Cabin

Escape for a weekend or weeklong getaway to the exquisitely restored Log Cabin, the original house on the Middleton estate, located next door to the inn's manor house. Originally built in the mid 1700s with an addition in the early 1800s, the Log Cabin is one of the most historic properties in the village of Washington, Virginia. The cabin is the birthplace of Middleton Miller who built the manor house, circa 1840. Wonderfully secluded, yet just a short stroll through the old town to the renowned Inn at Little Washington. Recently restored to preserve the original hand-hewn logs and fieldstone chimneys, this property has been updated with modern-day comforts. The cabin features heart pine flooring throughout, Oriental rugs, antiques, three working fireplaces, log walls and hand-hewn ceiling beams. This charming rustic cabin offers peace and comfort all year round. An inviting living room welcomes guests with antiques, walls of books, a conversation area in front of the working fireplace and windows that face the mountains or the gardens. The living room leads into a small, gourmet kitchen with cherry countertops, log ceilings, and an original stone wall. The bedroom on the first floor has log walls and hand-hewn ceiling beams, a private bath, a sitting area in which to curl up in front of the fire with a good book and a glass of sherry, and a luxurious queen-size bed to welcome you after an unforgettable dinner at the Inn at Little Washington. Up the narrow winding stairs from the cabin's living room is a large, classic country bedroom with a queen-size bed, private bath, working fireplace, and skylights that frame the blue skies and trees by day, the moon and stars by night. Large windows open out on the trees, pastures, and mountains. Walk the tree-shaded gardens or bask in the sun on the front porch and gaze at the gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge Mountains over a glass of complimentary wine. A perfect haven for a quiet celebration or a couple traveling with friends. Children and pets are welcome.

A Hidden Romantic Gem

What an amazing experience we had at this absolutely beautiful Inn. Its rooms are so very elegant, the common areas are so welcoming and warm, and memories of the Inn’s delicious breakfasts still make our mouths water. The Inn’s owner, Mary Ann, is such a wonderful host. She has done everything possible at the Inn to ensure that her guests have wonderful memories to take with them. The Inn is nestled in an incredibly tranquil and picturesque setting, and the recommendation of things to do while in the area were the icing on the cake. We travel quite a lot and stay in B&B’s most of the time. The Middleton Inn is one we will visit again and again and again!! It’s truly an unforgettable experience. The Farrell's
