Historic Interest
In 1889, Edmund G. Watkins made his home on the site of a former Civil War redoubt known as Fort Wood. Watkins put his resources into rebuilding and revitalizing the economy through building projects and restoring commerce. Watkins was elected mayor of Chattanooga in recognition for the continuing rebirth of the city.
