Innkeeper Note
The article in Washingtonian Magazine was about B&Bs with fireplaces and was fantastic for Mayhurst - if a bit over the top. Read it to see what we mean.
During the Confederate winter encampment of 1863-64, Mayhurst serverd as General A. P. Hill's Headquarters. One of A. P. Hill's daughters, Lucy Lee Hill, was baptized at Mayhurst. Her Godfather, General Robert E. Lee, held her in his arms throughout the christening ceremony on May 1, 1864. The image of the christening scene was recently completed by renowned historical artist, Mort Kuntsler, in a painting entitled "Tender is the Heart". A Giclee Print of the scene hangs in the Mayhurst Parlor where the ceremony took place. The painting was released in a special ceremony and signing at Mayhurst on 27 April, 2007.

“Great stay in this hostorical inn”
Doug Jewell10/9/2009
We spent 2 nights and really enjoyed the Inn and the historical sites in the area. Pat and Jack made us feel right at home without hovering over us. Great breakfasts. They set out wine, cheese and crackers in the evening and it allowed us to relax and really enjoy meeting and swapping stories with the other guests. The house was apparently full for the weekend. Other guests were most enjoyable. Only drawback was that our room (Magnolia) had a bathroom that was a bit cramped. That was a very small aspect of an otherwise most enjoyable stay in a very historical house. Also, they went to great lengths to return a cooler we forgot - THANKS!
