“Marcia, Marcia, Marcia” – A Collection of Bed and Breakfast Innkeepers Named Marcia

Written by Marcia Rockwood

maureenmccormick_lCMT currently has a reality show, Outsiders Inn, starring actress Maureen McCormick as the innkeeper.  You know her best as Marcia Brady, whose sister Jan on the popular Brady Bunch TV show, uttered those now famous words, “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia.” ILoveInns.com thought it only fitting that our own staff member, Marcia,  introduce you to some of our innkeepers who are also named Marcia. You will find them at bed and breakfast and country inns across the USA; all of them offering wonderful hospitality and all as uniquely different as the bed and breakfasts they run.

Marcia’s Maine Victorian Secrets
marciacarriagehouseOn Route 1, which weaves through charming seaport villages and past the scenic rocky coastline of Maine, you will find our first Marcia innkeeper at the Carriage House Inn. Located in Searsport, overlooking Penobscot Bay, this 1874 bed and breakfast was built by one of the well-known ship-building families, the McGilverys. This Victorian mansion, where the impressionist painter Waldo Pierce once lived, today provides three intimate rooms for guests, each with a spacious private bathrooms as well as modern amenities, such as wireless Internet access. Marcia proudly notes that the inn was recently featured on “If These Walls Could Talk” on HGTV, which revealed some of the historic secrets of the home, and the Carriage House Inn has also been featured in numerous magazines and newspaper articles.

Marcia & Majestic Niagara Falls
The Butler House Bed and Breakfast is a short walk to the majestic Niagara Falls on the USA side. Located on a quiet residential street, this Federal-style brick bed and breakfast offers four uniquely decorated rooms with queen beds, private baths, air conditioning, WiFi access and a full hot breakfast each morning. Innkeeper Marcia Yoder always dreamed of owning a bed and breakfast and after her children were grown she and husband Mike fulfilled her dream by purchasing the Butler House.

Massachusetts Marcia
Marcia General Rufus picThe General Rufus Putnam House sits serenely on seven acres of woodlands and meadows in central Massachusetts. Built in 1750 by a Scotch-Irish immigrant, this Rutland, Mass. home was purchased  30 years later by the founder of Marietta, Ohio, General Rufus Putnam. Today this rural bed and breakfast  is run by Innkeeper Marcia Warrington and husband Chris. From here you can easily catch a concert in Worcester, ski Mt. Wachuset, or explore Sturbridge Village. Return to the inn to be pampered by your hosts and calmed by the tranquil setting with its rambling stone fences.

Marcia’s Marmalade in Seattle

Marcia Chittendon HouseLocated near Alki Beach in West Seattle, the Chittenden House Bed & Breakfast offers a relaxing atmosphere with easy access to all of Seattle’s sites. Innkeeper Marcia Chittenden is probably most loved by her guests for her various homemade jams served alongside a tasty daily breakfast. She said the overwhelming guest favorite is her blackberry jam, although her quince jam generates the most conversation since many visitors to this Washington state bed and breakfast  have no idea what the quince fruit looks like.

Maeystown’s Musical Marcia
marciacornergeorgeA short 39 miles south of St Louis, The Corner George Inn is situated in the center of the historic German settlement of MaeystownIllinois. Travel across a one-lane stone-arched bridge to enter this quaint village and stay at this bed and breakfast which began as a hotel and salon at the end of the nineteenth century.  20 years ago Innkeeper Marcia Braswell and her husband did extensive renovations and re-opened the four buildings as The Corner George Inn.  Marcia has just retired after 35 years as a public school K-12 music teacher and at last count had produced almost 40 Broadway-style musicals!  Like many bed and breakfast innkeepers, she is a multi-talented and multi-tasking professional who enjoys hosting visitors from all over the world. Rustic or elegant, pick the room that suits you best.

Across the country you can be well-cared for by an assortment of wonderful innkeepers named Marcia. And although you might not get a chance to meet the former Marcia Brady,  you can count on meeting any one of the Marcias profiled above by staying at their real-life bed and breakfasts.
