Description

Circa 1845. A city landmark since the infamous axe murders, this 1845 Greek Revival home has been restored and is now an inviting bed and breakfast with Victorian furnishings and ambiance. Browse for a DVD, book or video from the library. Buy a souvenir from the gift shop. Memorabilia is on display. Some of the second-floor guest bedrooms can be combined as suites. Rooms on the third-floor share a private sitting room. Reminiscent of the Bordens’ last breakfast, a full New England breakfast is served with jonny cakes, fruit, homemade bread, eggs, sausage, home fries and sugar cookies. The one-acre grounds include a lush garden and orchard.

Historic Interest

It is the site of American most widely publicized murder of the Victorian age. On August 4, 1892 the bodies of Abby and Andrew Borden were found after having been whacked in the head with an axe. The trial of their daughter Lizzie Borden was surpassed in print only by Jack the Ripper. Although Lizzie was acquitted of the murders, the mystery remains unsolved.
