Litchfield Plantation
King's River RdPO Box 290
Pawleys Island, SC 29585
Circa 1750. Live oaks line the drive that leads to this antebellum mansion, and in one glance guests can imagine a time when this 600-acre estate was a prosperous rice plantation. The interior boasts many original features, and although the decor is more modern than it was in 1750, it still maintains charm and elegance. Four-poster and canopy beds, as well as a collection of traditional furnishings, grace the guest rooms, which are located in a variety of lodging options. Guests can stay in a plantation house suite or opt for a room in the Guest House. There are two and three-bedroom cottages available, too. The cottages are particularly suited to adult families or couples traveling together and include amenities such as a fireplace, kitchen and washer and dryer. The inn's dining room, located in the Carriage House, is a wonderful place for a romantic dinner. Start off with appetizers such as Terrine al Fresco, followed by a Caesar salad and an entree such as medallions of pork or the Carriage House Grouper. Guests enjoy privileges at the oceanfront Pawleys Island Beach House, and there are tennis courts and a swimming pool on the plantation premises. Many golf courses are nearby. Be sure to ask about the inn's packages.
