It was once known as Slippery Ford but its name was soon changed in honor of the town's former postmaster. Because of its location, Kyburz is surrounded by mountains and forested areas. There are creeks and rivers that also crisscross the town center and the surrounding woods. In fact, the town is located by the American River. It is accessible by taking U.S. Highway 50. The ruggedness of the place is also the reason why some outdoors-loving tourists would not hesitate to visit and get accommodations at Kybyurz bed and breakfast inns. While at Kyburz, take hiking trips in the forests. The largest forest surrounding the town is El Dorado National Forest. Kyburz also offers some less-known but good skiing areas.
