Maine is one of the smallest states in the country but when it comes to tourist attractions and scenic sights, it is a heavyweight. One of the best areas is a town in York County, Kennebunkport. This town of only a few thousand residents often times finds its population surging. This is caused by the steady influx of tourists and visitors who want to spend a few days vacationing in the town and enjoying every beautiful sight that can be found in Kennebunkport.  Kennebunkport bed and breakfast inns are extremely popular here.

Kennebunkport’s primary sources of pride are in Lower Village, in Ocean Avenue, and Dock Squar along the banks of the Kennebunk River.  Here visitors have the chance of seeing the mansions that were built and owned by the captains of the ships that crossed the Atlantic and docked along the banks of the river. Many of these mansions have been transformed into Kennebunkport bed and breakfast inns. Along Ocean Avenue are the town’s gift shops. Visitors might also catch a sight of the former president George H.W. Bush’s summer home.

About two miles to the east of Kennebunkport is Cape Porpoise, dubbed by locals as the quiet side of town. A typical fishing village, visitors can experience a quaint and quiet lifestyle even for just a few hours stay. Go to Goat Island Lighthouse and take pictures of its scenic surroundings with the ocean in the background. Visit the pier and observe lobstermen at work.  The restaurants in the village provide great seafood specialties.  Of course, the village’s pride is its succulent lobster dishes.

Swimming and boating is definitely a fun activity that can be enjoyed in Kennebunkport. The best place to go in order to indulge in these is Goose Rocks Beach, which is near the town center.  The beach is three miles long and is a favorite of beach-combers and shell collectors. Kayakers start their trip here before they proceed to the islands just across .  In the evenings, especially when the moon is at its brightest, the beach becomes a romantic place for couples to stroll.

Kennebunkport is a vacationer’s paradise all year round. Whether it is summer, spring, fall, or winter, there is always a reason to come to the town and stay there for a weekend or even for more than a week.  There is no doubt that what makes it click is its unique beauty, the kind that can only be experienced in Kennebunkport.
