Historic Interest
The home, built in 1891, was the third house in the neighborhood, first on the street, and was built for one of San Antonio's city fathers. The architect, Alfred Giles, was a premier architect in Texas is the late 1800s. The home was one of the first examples of very early arts and crafts and showcases many fine examples of incredible woodwork. We are extremely fortunate that no one ever decided to paint the five-foot wainscotting in the foyer, dining room and parlor. The yellow and red oak flooring show master craftsmanship with each floor showcasing a different design. All floors are still original. The dining room has a four-wall mural above the five-foot wainscotting attributed to well-known south Texas artist Julian Onderdonk (it would have been around 1905). The house was also home to several other well known local historical figures.
