'The' B&B on LBI!!

The Island Guest House boasts an atmosphere that is charming, warm, and simply inviting. Whether you want romance, a girls getaway, or family time....this B&B is the perfect choice! The innkeepers, along with their children and staff, are very warm people who always wear a smile and are available at any time to answer your inquiries.

A B&B that matches its website

We chose the Island Guest House B&B for a few reasons: price, private bath, and the impressive web sites. I have seen websites where the photographer was a GENIUS, because the pictures made a showplace out of a dump - this was NOT the case here - we liked what we saw on the web, and we very happy to see that the Island Guest House looked EXACTLY as it was pictured. The food was as good (if not better) than the web described, and the owners were very friendly and accommodating. This is a great, quaint place to stay and there is no shortage of things to do in the area.

Our two cetns on the B&B at LBI

At the first glance, we were disappointed as the guest house looked much larger on the website than in reality. Our room was B6 and the private bath was really not what we expected. It was a shower box in a little room with carpet and as we are both tall, we really needed time to adjust to the tight space. A real advantage of our room was the little deck, accessible from the bathroom, which we enjoyed after a day at the beach. The hospitality of the owners compensated the deficiencies of the room. The service was good and as guest you could feel the commitment of the owners to make this a special stay for their guests. The staff of the Inn was excellent, especially the women who served breakfast and surprised the guests with wonderful cakes during tea time, and this contributed a lot to the feeling that the Island Guest House was a nice place to stay.

Love this place!

We are so happy we "found" this place!! Mark and Joanne do everything possible to make you feel comfortable and at home. Everything is within walking distance. Breakfasts were freshly prepared each morning, and afternoon ice tea and home made sweets were set out after a "hard days work" on the beach! We will definatly stay here again.

A convenient B&B with a great value

My wife and I visted LBI for a short midweek vaca. We have stayed at the Island Guest House in the past & always come back. Joanne & Mark are warm and great hosts doing just about everything to make your visit satisfying. You can't beat the location-beaches-restaurants-shopping. Rooms are comfortable and the breakfasts are the best. We recommend this spot for its overall value and friendlyness

Relaxing by the Sea

Island Guest House is just perfect for a quiet get-away, enjoying the beach, and being treated to sumptuous breakfasts and fun wine-tastings and in general, a good time. Joanne and Mark are super, as is their family who helps out at the inn. Lorrie and Deb are great in the kitchen and also very sweet. The inn is clean and the staff is efficient. What a great place to stay on LBI.

AMAZING JULY 4TH VACATION!

My girlfriend and I hade maid reservations for the Island Guest House about two months before our stay this past weekend. From the very begining the staff was very personal and willing to answer any and all of our questions in a timely fashion. When we arrived on the day of our trip, we were greeted with a warm smile and a courtesy gift bag. The house was beautiful and well maintained. The staff were extremely friendly and willing to talk to us. Their suggestions for places to eat and visit were spot on. Every morning came with some of the most delicious breakfast we have ever eaten. We loved the fact that every time we came in to the house after a long day on the beach there was always some kind of amazing baked good prepaired and waiting in the common room. We plan on booking another stay at the Island Guest House later this summer. We had a wonderful time.

Love this place!

I have been coming to LBI for years. This was my first stay at a B&B on LBI. It was excellent! Mark and Joanne are great hosts. My boyfriend and I felt right at home. We were sad when Sunday afternoon came and we had to leave. We will definitely go back to the Island Guest House.

We love Island Guest House

My husband and I were married on LBI in October of 2008. We had our reception at the Island Guest House and enjoyed a relaxing and magical wedding weekend there with our entire family. Joanne and Mark truly make you feel at home. They are both exceptionally kind, caring and friendly people, who really seem to enjoy what they do. The guest house itself is quaint, beautiful and always clean. It has that "charm" that so many of the historic homes on LBI have. Aside from looking great, the food is amazing. Joanne has a passion for cooking that is evident in the food she makes. Staying at the guest house is as comfortable as being at home-- only 100x better.

Loved this quaint b&b!! The courtyard is beautiful with flowers and water fountains that create a peaceful and serene experience - so relaxing!! The innkeepers are super friendly and pay attention to the guests and offer up a delicious breakfast!! The ambiance of this inn speaks for itself and cannot be compared to a regular dull hotel room. Wonderful B & B--Truly a Gem

We discovered this hidden little gem last year (2009) after staying one night at a miserable Class C motel which billed itself as a "B & B" on the North end of LBI. We arrive on the IGH doorstep the following morning bags in hand and 3 kids in tow and the owners, Mark & Joanne Spulock were absolutely wonderful!! They rearranged some things and were able to accommodate all of including my mother-in-law who was visiting with us from England and we had just an amazing experience. Each day began with home-made breakfast either in large, warm kitchen of this friendly place with a chance to meet other guests and chat over delicious muffins, French Toast or eggs of our choice. Since then my wife and I have been back twice and I went there solo at the end of the season (late September of 2009) for a brief 3 day R & R. Most recently we visited IGH earlier this month (5/10) and Mark and Joanne were once again as gracious as ever and each time we come back there is something new or different about the place which keeps it always interesting yet extraordinarily comfortable. Rates are very reasonable and they will accommodate special requests to the extent they can. As they are fond of saying, "All you need to bring are some beach towels and good weather!!" The rest is supplied by this charming oasis of hospitality and friendship. Paul & Rachael Philadelphia, PA

Amazing!

This inn is perfect! The rooms were very cozy, clean and well designed/decorated. The service was wonderful (the innkeepers are the sweetest people we ever met), and the breakfasts were absolutely delicious (the cheese blintzes are unbelievable)! It's location couldn't be any better, it's only a very short stroll to the awesome beaches, and it's location in town makes shopping and dinner a very easy walk as well. There is really no need to drive at all when your there, but for the adventurous couple, they offer a great bicycle built for two. We will certainly be going back for years to come, and we highly recommend this inn to anyone looking for the perfect getaway!

Your Island retreat

We enjoyed our stay ant the Island Guest house. Mark and Joanne were great through the booking process and even though we had a small room it was clean and comfortable. Our 5 year old daughter enjoyed her stay as well. The location cannot be beat and the owners gave us lots of suggestions about where to eat and places to go. There is a lovely porch for reading or relaxing with an iced tea or a glass of wine. Our bed was comfortable and we had a good nights sleep, it is on a quite street. I think that it is worth it to spend $10 per person (after check-out) to use the beach badges/showers and get fresh towels... so you can add another day of beach before going home. Nice option.

LBI Gem

With a wonderful location, clean, comfortable rooms and friendly and welcoming proprietors, the Island Guesthouse is a delightful oasis in a sea of nearby strip motels and chain accommodation. Mark and Joanne, along with their lovely daughter Victoria, balance working hard to meet individual guests' needs while respecting the privacy and personal space occasionally too cloying at other Bed and Breakfasts. Breakfast served at the Inn is outstanding, with Joanne carefully supervising preparation and service to insure standards equivalent to finer resorts. In short, the Island Guesthouse is a wonderful destination and sure to please even the most discerning visitor.

Above and Beyond Service

The breakfasts here alone are worth the trip! Fantastic location, just a few short blocks from the beach and a great outside bar with live music. Joanne and Mark's hospitality is unsurpassable, and they have selected people to work with who are equally as wonderful. Extremely clean room and house, comfortable temperature, delicious food, easy parking. There's really no other option if you're going to LBI!

Marvelous Bed & Breakfast

This Bed and Breakfast was perfect for our family reunion. Cozy quarters, great room service, delicious complementary breakfast, and wonderfully spacious patio for everyone to hang out. The service was outstanding - Joanne and Mark welcomed us with open arms to their establishment and really made us feel like family. This place is also only a few blocks from the beach - very convenient for small store shopping as well. I would definitely go back if I visited LBI again - two thumbs up!

Great Stay!

Guest House, my husband and I decided to give it a go and so glad that we did! The Inn was comfortable and inviting but without all the frills and potpourri that I usually associate with B and B's. Mark and Joanne were the perfect hosts and attended to our every need. Five minutes after we arrived, we were sitting around her kitchen island drinking lemonade! Yet, quite intuitively, they knew when to chat and when to let us go off on our own. Each morning a homemade breakfast is served which can be enjoyed in their dining room, on the porch or in their lovely side yard. The homemade waffles and strawberries were divine! Joanne also serves some sort of afternoon "snack" -one day it was watermelon and cupcakes and the next day it was hot dogs and chips and watermelon. In an attempt to be a bit frugal, we opted for a room with a shared hall bath. the room itself was comfortable with a window ac unit and flat screen TV-although we never turned it on. Their is a sink in the room and with a fabulous outside shower we really only used the hall bath for the toilet. Seemed the we were the only ones using it, as I never saw another person go in or out. The room was comfortable but anything more then 2 or 3 nights would start feeling too snug. Perhaps one of the best things was the option to "extend " the day. By paying $10 per person, after the 11AM check out you could continue to use all parts of the Inn other then your room of course. So after we checked out, we still had the beach tags for our use, came back to use the bathroom and outdoor shower -for which Joanne provided towels- and enjoyed the afternoon hot dogs and fruit. This was a fantastic arrangement-and one, I believe, you can take advantage of if you arrive early in the day before check in. So, thank you Mark and Joanne for a wonderful stay! Janet and Michael

Little slice of heaven

Complete with Angels! Staying at this B&B is the perfect get away. Affordable, close to the beach, the theater, shops, and restaurants. Plenty of common areas for privacy, but always someone to chat with if you're so inclined. The service is top notch, and every detail has been attended to so there is nothing left to do but relax, enjoy your breakfast, a day at the beach, an afternoon snack after your outdoor shower and figure out which of the many restuarants to have dinner.

Friendly B&B

Stayed here for a family wedding. The owners and their staff were very friendly and catered to any request (within reason) made of them. Food was excellent. The place was clean and comfortable. Would stay here again if we should ever come back to Beach Haven.

great time

Had a wonderful stay at the Island Guest House! The food was excellent -they were very kind in taking care of my vegetarian needs. The place was clean and comfortable and the hosts made us feel right at home. Great location for beach time as well as shopping and dining. Lots within walking distance.

can't wait to return!

we can't say enough great things about this place! we had a small wedding here in May and after 6 months of patient and endless help from the owners we had a beautiful intimate wedding party in their garden patio area. the sound system was totally perfect for the occasion, their house caterers provided delicious food. the owners' willingness to accomodate made the planning so easy and fun. i stayed in the sunflower room before the wedding and it had a glorious bathroom with a cute balcony. the breakfast was fantastic (be sure to try the creme cake- a family recipe that is heavenly!) and the innkeepers were so sweet and eager to please. the assistant they provided us for our wedding was absolutely irreplaceable. the owners have struck a perfect balance of being professional while still making you feel right at home. they are unobtrusive and offer as much privacy as you want, but i promise you will want to stop and chat with them as much as possible. they are truly great people with a gift of hospitality. thank you joanne and mark and victoria- we can't wait to visit again!

We found a treasure!

We decided, spur of the moment, to head to the shore..no reservations..we had a list of B&B's..at the Island Guest we were welcomed with open arms and given a good rate...a warm and friendly owner and staff..they were ready to accommodate ours needs..only a short walk to the beach, close to restaurants and attractions...the inn has an old, historic charm...the breakfasts and homemade baked goods were great..we brought bikes but they provide them too. We were sorry to leave and hope to return. (also I left 2 bags there, I called,in a panic, but the owner calmed me and said she would send them to me!)

buyer beware

This B&B has a "if you don't ask, you won't get" policy. Their supposedly new hot water system is defunct; I had 2 days of cold showers. The owners never apologized. Instead, only after they alluded that it was our fault because we didn't let the water run long enough, and we retorted that we let the water run 15 minutes, they told us how much the system cost & said that maybe someone changed the setting by mistake. On the second night, we had a sleepless night due to the hot room temp. Between cold showers and no sleep we approached owners in the morning and they refused to refund us the 3rd night when we said we didn't want to stay. The owner pointed to a paper that was in our room and said that if we were uncomfortable, we had the responsibility to call them. Really?!? We certainly were not going to call at 2am and turn on the AC! Its summer, they should have set the AC on their own, not wait for a complaint. Their reactive stance applied to room cleaning as well. Sheets and towels are only changed upon request. Our room's trashcan wasn't even emptied. Breakfast was below par when compared to other B&B's that pride themselves on making it a highlight. This B&B makes a casserole egg dish or a cobbler (represented by them as blueberry french toast) on alternating days. They place the Pyrex on a table without heat under it as part of a meager buffet...that includes one cut up fruit option and bagels. Coffee comes from a convenience store style machine 24-7. They don't brew real coffee in the morning. In a B&B, you expect comfortable sleeping, a hot shower and a decent breakfast. None were offered here. In better facilities, if AC and hot water are not running, most would allow you to leave and refund you the unused night. This place refused and only after some words, they acquiesced to refunding a small portion that didn't even cover the tax.

Management Response
This is actually a great review because it speaks of something we as Innkeepers always worry about...How to make our guests comfortable enough to tell us their needs! Having been an Innkeeper for 19 years, and having both attended and spoken at many national Bed and Breakfast national conferences, one of the most frustrating things we as Innkeepers have to deal with is how to make our guests comfortable enough to let us know their needs. At a hotel, a guest would not think twice about calling the desk to request that the air be made cooler (we keep ours at 71), or if the hot water heater doesn't get hot. (We put new rain showers in that bedroom, but we had to adjust them because the energy efficient insert makes the flow too low for the new tankless water heater to register - a 5 minute job). However Bed and Breakfast guests tend to be very nice (with ours being no exception) and worry that they will disturb us if they need something, especially at night. We make no bones about telling them that we would rather be "bothered" and have happy guests! (it is the very first line in capitals on our "welcome" paper...And we have them sign a form promising to let us know if they need service! Hearing our guests tell us how much they like being here is what drives us to continue on each day. Guest suggestions help us to constantly become better at serving guests needs? We do everything we can for our guests, and the only way we know if they prefer things outside of the industry norm is of they tell us. In a B&B, feeling that one doesn't want to bother the Innkeeper just leads to to a snowball effect wherein the guest has a decreasingly enjoyable time, no matter how luxurious the amenities are. I do wish to clarify several statements. This guest was given a mid-week discount at the time he made his reservation, and we completed the adjustment with the refund issued, giving him his third day completely FREE. He also was in was in the Wisteria Room, and because it has a private entrance with private patio, guests may bring small dogs as long as they do not use the inside entrance to the Inn. We do not enter a room with a strange dog in it, but have the owner let us know when he takes the dog out of the room so it can be cleaned. My very competent housekeeper, after asking several times if she could clean the room, finally was given a 5 minute time slot when the guests would be out. We do a great job of cleanliness, as our reviews show. Here on the Island we try to keep things a little "green" as do many accommodation facilities. We leave a card that says any towels on the floor will be changed, and if the guest will use them for another day, to leave them hanging. Here at the Inn the kitchen is the center of activity. The menu on the days of our guest visit was Blueberry stuffed french toast, maple sausage, fresh fruit cups or parfaits, and a first course station of fresh bagel and spreads, hard cooked eggs, cereals, coffee, tea and juice. The next day we had a ham and cheese fratata, a bubbly vegetable egg casserole, home made cobbler, fresh sliced melon, strawberries and blueberries, and bagels, english muffins and several breads and cereals. We are very proud of our breakfasts and i personally strive to constantly serve elegant and delicious menus. We are VERY typical of an upper scale B&B inn. Like good and involved innkeepers should be, we are affiliated with many other members of the B&B community. We attend conventions, mingle and swap recipes with lots of our B&B friends. I also helped to start Beach Haven's Historic Preservation Commission, and we are very involved in our community here. Our very high tech coffee machine provides great coffee, computer brewed at the exact strength and temperature and triple filtered. It is not a convenience store powdered machine. We really do bend over backwards to make our guests welcome, but we cant help them if they don't let us know if they need something, and that is very frustrating. So please, if you choose to stay at ours or any of the many lovely B&B's around, please let your Innkeeper know your needs, and you will be pleasantly surprised at the level of commitment to guest satisfaction we wish to give! We boast a 60 percent repeat clientele. We love what we do, and strive to keep our "Bed and Breakfast family" happy!
